8 Must Visit Beaches Of Odisha

City Lights: Travel

Odisha’s beaches are represented by vast stretches of golden sandy land, deep blue sea, pleasant weather and are the most peaceful beaches in India. The country has almost a 6,000 km long coastline, which is home to some of the finest beaches in the world. Out of it, Odisha has 482 km of coastal stretch which offers some of the finest silvery beaches where the lapping waters of Bay of Bengal pay homage to their beauty.

For centuries now, the beach at Puri has been the venue for countless pilgrims who come for taking the traditional purification dip. The fine white sands of Puri beach and the roar of the breakers rolling in from the Bay of Bengal have always fascinated visitors. As it is with all the beaches of Odisha, overcrowding is never a problem and the sight of holiday-makers having entire stretches of the beach to themselves is not uncommon.

Chandipur is one of the most popular tourist destinations and has its own unique character which sets it apart from all other beaches of India. The most interesting feature of the sea at the Chandipur beach is the way it retreats almost 5 kms twice a day. As the sea recedes back, the horizon broadens and the soft, moist, tempting sand becomes an ideal place for the tourists to sit back and enjoy the tranquil aspect of nature. The rare sight of the waves caressing towards the shore and the dazzling sunlight are sure to captivate anybody who visits this place.

The Chandrabhaga beach in Odisha is one of its biggest assets both from the aspect of the tourism industry and the history of the place.  The golden sand and the casuarina trees add to the natural glamour of the beach. But the biggest claim to fame for the Chandrabhaga beach is the Konark Temple or the Sun Temple. Originally, the waters of the Chandrabhaga beach used to flow towards the celebrated sculpted wheel on the Konark Temple but today, the sea has shifted and it is almost 2 kms away from the temple.

The serene atmosphere and the pristine beaches create the perfect tranquil atmosphere for rejuvenating one’s mind and soul. A paradise for marine lovers, the Gopalpur beach is the site of an ancient seaport and the ancient light house on the beach stands as a memento of the bygone era. The biggest asset of the Gopalpur beach is its virgin nature.  It is probably this natural setting of the Gopalpur beach and the vibrant local lifestyle that captivate the tourists most.
