Do you ever wonder, while watching an Odissi dance performance of how the dancers prep themselves up so beautifully that everything looks almost effortless when they emerge in front of us? Well, let us tell you that the process is just fascinating and there’s a manic of activity that constantly keeps buzzing backstage. No wonder the back of the stage is as meticulously crafted and choreographed as everything that we witness onstage!
In the much recent Konark Dance Festival 2016, we particularly had the privilege to go behind the scene and watch the dancers’ last-minute preparations before they joyously disappeared into the bright lights of the stage. What we saw gave us a really different perspective of this dance form and an exceptional sense of respect for the dancers who make everything look so elegant, despite such massive preparations. In these pictures below, find out how exactly the backstage of this incredible festival seemed like with colorful costumes, cautious make-ups and prayers that reverberated in the air long after the dancers had left the rooms, only to enchant us with everything that defined perfection on the stage!
