Each year, the wonderfully eclectic Sun Temple at Konark becomes a backdrop for one of India’s biggest cultural festivals. Various folk and classical Indian dancers come together to explore the fabled past of this magnificent temple as well as to celebrate and encourage the vibrant dance styles. This festival is a five-day event packed with dancers of great repute and budding artistes who perform in the most awe inspiring setting of an open-air auditorium.
The Konark Dance Festival of 2016 did everything to leave local, national and International visitors enthralled. A home to dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Chhau, Gotipua and various others, the festival’s main highlight was the mesmerizing Odissi dance performances. Clad in elegant attires and bathed in multicolored lights, the Odissi dancers moved together in perfect rhythm and elegance on the stage. The experience of this entire festival was enchanting and rustic at the same time, with audiences getting pleasantly engrossed in the celebrations.
