Justice For Pramodini After Eight Years Of Long Wait

Justice For Pramodini After Eight Years Of Long Wait

Bhubaneswar, November 26: In a major breakthrough in the Pramodini Roul acid attack case, two accused have been arrested from Kolkata and Nayagarh on Saturday evening.

A team of Jagatsinghpur police arrested the main accused Santosh Vedanta who threw acid on Pramodini in April 2009. Santosh is in Indian Army and was posted in Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir but he was hiding in Kolkata. The team has also arrested his key associate Biswajit Dalsinghray from Nayagarh who was riding the bike at the time of the incident when Santosh executed the heinous act which ruined Pramodini’s life. This development comes in the wake of the assurance given by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to Pramodini when she was in the city for an event hosted by Parichay Foundation recently.

Pramodini was barely 16 when the one-sided love of Santosh had led to the acid attack on her and completely changed her life. It had not only affected her appearance but she had also lost her eyesight completely.

Due to lack of evidence, her case was closed in 2012. It was again reopened during August this year. However, despite getting all the evidence, police had failed to arrest the culprits and so the case was handed over to CBI recently.

Talking to My City Links, Pramodini, while appreciating the latest development, said, “I just got the news that police has arrested the two culprits. I will soon visit Odisha for verification of the culprits as right now I am going to Chennai for my eye checkup. I am very happy that finally some development has happened in my case for which I was waiting since long. I hope the culprits would get their due punishment.”

Pramodini is now associated with Sheroes Hangout in Agra and works in the cafe. Recently she had undergone an eye operation due to which she can now see from one eye. She is also planning to undergo further eye, skin and facial operations.

Meanwhile, Odisha Human Rights Commission has asked the Home Secretary and Jagatsinghpur Collector to pay a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to Pramodini.
