Meet This Homeopathy Doctor Who Provides Free Homeopathic Medicines Through His Clinic!

Dr. Roy provides free of cost homeopathic medicines to people through his clinic, Lingaraj Charitable Homeopathic Clinic at Old Town, Bhubaneswar. A retired assistant professor of Electrical Engineering at OUAT, he has been a successful researcher of homeopathic medicine. He has written two books namely ‘Effective Homeopathic Prescribing and Word Index to Boger-Boenninghausen’s Repertory’ and invented the pocket size ‘Homeopathic Punched Card Calculator’, a first of its kind in the country. This calculator can help the homeopath find the correct medicine within minutes. Besides, his articles have appeared in major Indian homeopathic journals like National Journal of Homeopathy, The Homeopathic Heritage and Vital Informer. He has also worked as the Assistant Editor of Homeopathic Update published from New Delhi.

My City Links talks to Dr. Roy about his journey from being an engineer to a Homeopath.

You are an engineer by profession. How did you develop an interest in homeopathy?

My father had a good collection of homeopathic books and used to treat us with homeopathic medicines for minor illnesses. I used to read those books during my leisure. My first convincing experience of Homeopathy was when it cured me from severe eczema on my legs, when I was a child. I would get sick during winters almost every year. After failure of allopathic medicines, my father took me to his friend Chakradhara Mishra, who was residing in Mangalabag, Cuttack during 1960s. He used to send one dose of homeopathic medicine by post. Though the eczema got aggravated initially, finally, it was cured.

Later, I had almost forgotten about homeopathy till my wife suffered from cough which could not be cured by allopathy. My friends advised me to consult a homeopath Dr. Indubhusan Roy, who was treating patients at his Gautam Nagar residence in Bhubaneswar. I took my wife to him and Dr. Roy cured her within few hours with homeopathic medicine. This cure surprised me and I decided to study this system myself. This is how my journey started. I consulted various homeopaths in Bhubaneswar for various illnesses of my family and friends. I studied the prescriptions of different doctors and analysed the successful cures. I have been studying this system of medicine for last 40 years.

Tell us about the unique tool, the pocket size Homeopathic Punched Card Calculator that you have designed and published.

I found that if the symptoms of the patient are matching with the symptoms of the drug, then it works and, if not, then it doesn’t! There are more than 2,000 remedies and more than one lakh symptoms in Homeopathy. So it becomes difficult for a doctor to memorise this huge data. And when many homeopathic doctors prescribe from memory, the medicines do not work at all. To solve this difficulty, I started compiling data from important books and collected commonly appearing symptoms in patients. I also studied the method of prescribing of doctors starting from inventor of Homeopathy Hahnemann. I collected most often appearing symptoms in the patients, out of which I selected 60 symptoms for my cards. I also studied all the medicines and selected 67 remedies for my cards. So, this card has 60 symptoms and 67 remedies. It took total 10 years to design a punched card calculator, which I published in 1996. I had fabricated 300 sets initially which were sold out within a few weeks. Nowadays, even though computer software is available, my calculator is unique because it is cheap, requires no power, is portable and takes less time than computer.

What honours have you received for your expertise in Homeopathy?

Besides receiving worldwide recognition, Honorary D. Sc. degree was conferred on me by OICM, Sri Lanka during 1994 for my research contributions to Homeopathy. It’s great for me that the details of my calculator have been added in the homeopathic text books for study of UG and PG students.

How are Homeopathic medicines prepared?

Homeopathic medicines are made from same materials from which many Allopathic and Ayurvedic medicines are also prepared. The medicines are prepared from metals like iron, from plants like garlic, from poisons like snake poison, from disease products like TB and so on. But the process of making is different. In Homeopathy, the more a material is diluted, the more powerful it is. This process of diluting even toxic substances removes the toxic effect of the source but retains the curative power. This is the reason why Homeopathic medicines are non-toxic and harmless.

It is heard that Homeopathy works slow. Is it true?

This is a common myth about Homeopathy. But it is not true in most cases. In fact, if proper diagnosis is conducted, the patient would show immediate signs of improvement. In acute diseases the response time is within minutes, while in chronic diseases it can extend up to several days. It depends on the age of the patient, duration of the disease, location of the disease and other factors.

What made you come up with a charitable Homeopathic clinic?

After studying Homeopathy and finding its usefulness, I felt that people should use this system of treatment more often than others. I had always wanted to serve the society in some way. The Homeopathic medicines are quite inexpensive. So I decided to utilise my knowledge to serve the people through my charitable clinic.
