Pinaki Mishra Demands Special Funds For Puri Station In Railway Budget

Bhubaneswar January 6: BJD MP from Puri, Pinaki Mishra on Saturday has urged the Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to allocate special funds in the upcoming budget for renovation and upgradation of Puri railway station.

In his letter to the Minister, Mishra has urged that the doubling of railway line upto Puri is highly required. Lamenting that Puri station is still lagging behind in terms of being developed as a world class station which was promised a decade back, Mishra said, “I earnestly urge you to sanction special funds for the renovation and upgradation of Puri railway station to world class standards in the upcoming railway budget.”

Adding further, the MP requested for connecting Bhubaneswar and Puri by rail link with the golden quadrilateral of Konark and Satapada so that the tourists visiting Puri would be able to enjoy the magnificent Konark temple and the Chandrabagha beach, and also the marvellous Chilika lake situated next to Satapada. “Lakhs of tourists visit Puri, but due lack of connecting railway lines, many face difficulties to reach the world heritage site,” he said.

The connecting rail link form Bhubaneswar and Puri to Konark has been long desired but no concrete step has been taken so far to fulfill the demand. If the Central Government approves the demand, it would help increase the footfall of tourists in Black Pagoda. As of now, to reach Konark, one has to travel by road either from Bhubaneswar, or Puri which often costs more.
