Renowned Odia Poet Rabi Singh To Receive Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman Bhubaneswar

December 8: Revolutionary Odia poet Rabi Singh will be conferred with the prestigious Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman for the year 2017. This was announced by Odisha Sahitya Akademi here on Friday. The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Harihar Mishra, President of Odisha Sahitya Akademi. 

Interacting with MCL, Mishra said, “We received many names for the award but after a thorough discussion, we selected Rabi Singh for the prestigious award. He is one of the finest revolutionary poets who through his works, had voiced about old values and double standards of the society.”

Singh will receive the award at a ceremony to be organised by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi. The date is yet to be finalised.

Rabi Singh has also received the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award in 1961. His poetry collections include Patha Prantara Kabita, Charama Patra, Sithila Balga, Lal Pagoda Ra Preta o Anya Kabita, Bhrukuti, Bidirna, Padatika, Apritikara Kabita, Jawalara Mala, Kshata, Bishabani, Durgama Giri, Jhada, Sarbahara, Banya, Anaryara Charyapada among other collections.

Apart from Rabi Singh, 15 litterateurs will also be felicitated during the event. Sanatan Mohanty, Rajat Kumar Kar, Bhupen Mohapatra, Nabakishore Prusty, Ramchandra Mohanto, Surendra Kumar Moharana, Trinath Sahu, Laxmidhar Jena, Banshidhar Rout, Panchanan Mishra, Anjali Panda, Nakula Chandra Sahu, Anil Chandra Das, Kumuda Chandra Das and Gobardhan Nayak will be felicitated at the award ceremony.

“We received around 30 names for this special felicitation from all districts. The members of the selection committee which include writers and poets from the state, selected 15 writers,” informed Mishra.

While Rabi Singh will receive Rs one lakh, the 15 litterateurs will be felicitated with Rs 30000 as honorarium.
