Bhubaneswar, October 10: A short film of Sisir Kumar Sahu, ‘Farchaa’, produced by Peenake Singh Rajputhas been shortlisted for screening at the 19th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festivalwhich will begin from October 12.
The 25-minute duration film has been selected under ‘Large Short Films’ category and will be screened on October 14. Along with ‘Farchaa’, nine other best short films have been shortlisted for the festival.
An alumnus of the Biju Patnaik Film and Television Institute, Sisir last worked as an assistant director with Ashutosh Gowariker in the movie ‘MohenjoDaro’ which was released in 2016. He had also assisted Gowarikar in the television series ‘Everest’ which was aired on Star Plus channel. He has had the chance to work with renowned director ShyamBenegal on ‘Samvidhan: The Making of the Constitution’ for the Rajya Sabha channel. He was also assistant director of ‘Zed Plus’.
‘Farchaa’ is Sisir’s first independent film and he is very excited for being selected in Mumbai’s biggest film festival. Interacting with MCL, Sisir said, “I am really happy that my first independent film has been selected for MAMI. It is my first Odia film. I am happier because the jury members included all the prominent personalities of the Bollywood industry.”
The short film revolves around two main characters who meet near the railway track when both were trying to commit suicide. “Though there are two characters in the film that are visible, apart from them,there are many other characters which can be heard in the film but they are not being revealed on screen.”
Shooting of the short film started in the month ofJanuary and was done in Cuttack. “Since it was my first individual project, I tried to give it my best,” he said.
Sisir is now planning to send the film to other major film festivals too. “The film will be sent to various film festivals,” he added.
