State Film & Tele Awards, 2016 Announced

Veteran Odia singer Pranab Kishore Patnaik has been chosen for the coveted Jaydev Puruskar making him the first singer from the state to be nominated for this prestigious award.

This was announced by Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda in an event held at Panthanivas on Monday. Patnaik, who has proved his versatility by lending his voice to all kinds of music, from Odissi, folk, devotional, bhajans, semi classical to traditional numbers, will also receive a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a certificate of honour for his contribution to the Odia film industry.

Talking to My City Links, Patnaik said, “I am very much thankful to all my listeners and well-wishers and especially my guru. I am the only singer to be receiving this award and so I am very happy with this. I think all the young singers should work hard so that they too can reach this level.”

Meanwhile, the Odisha State Film Awards and State Tele Awards for the year 2016 were also announced. Odia film ‘Chini’ directed by Pradeep Bholo will receive the ‘Mohan Sunder Dev Goswami Award’ in the best feature film category carrying a cash prize of Rs 50,000. While Samaresh Routray will get the Best Actor Award for the film ‘Namard’, actress Lipi will get the Best Actress Award for the movie “Mimansa”. Similarly, Ajay Rath will be receiving the Best Director award for the film “Namard”.

While the government announced various awards in 27 categories this year, there were some categories which had no winners including Best Educational/Children Movie; Best Documentary and also Best Tribal Film.

For the State Tele Awards, Sankha Sindura has been adjudged the Best Serial. Lead actor of the serial Likun Choudhry will get the Best Actor Award while Swetalina will get the Best Actress Award for the serial ACP Nikita.
