“The Tough Gets Going” Novel Makes An Attempt To Answer Life’s Complex Questions

Life at times drives us to unsolvable puzzles, leaving us helpless in the hands of destiny. Destiny, being an unseen force drags us to some unwanted happenings and hurdles in life that are not easy for all to overcome. While some pass, some fail to tide over the toughest time in their lives. Author Sushmita S Das’ second novel “The Tough Gets Going” gives a complete insight into the complexities of life, where the author answers the difficult questions of life with her unique narration. It is a new thriller based story, based on a character by the name Shekhar Dev, a renowned architect. The story unfolds when Roshan, Shekhar’s son discovers the contents of his father’s locker. In the author’s words, “The thrill is held right till the end to make one realise that the tyranny of circumstances hits us with its icy claws especially when we are in perfect carpe diem!”

“This novel’s storyline has been devised by my husband who is also the co-author of the book. It is based on a suspense thriller story. The lead character of this story has always gone through tough circumstances, and the story is all about how he overcomes those hurdles in life. The way of writing in this novel is very different from others. If you read this book, unlike most other authors, I have provided notes in the book. I have given some key notes on how to overcome a situation from the author’s point of view. I have picturised the beautiful family bonding, which has become rare these days. So, this book does carry a lot of message for the readers,” said Sushmita.

An educationist by profession, she had always nurtured a deep love for writing. Her debut novel “The Foreplay of Providence” was published in the year 2015. “The Tough Gets Going” is her second novel.

Sushmita’s husband, Simanta Das is an advocate and sports person who has co-authored the book with her. Talking at the event of the book’s realease at BOCCA Cafe, Bhubaneswar, Simanta Das said, “The inspiration for this book came from one of my friends. He has a very funny personality. I have always liked his pranks, jokes and his attitude, which inspires me a lot. Seeing him, I always wanted to make a story on him. However, in this story, we have used only his character, attitude and personality, and nothing from his personal life. Although I knew the story, I was unable to picturise it. But when my wife started writing it and her first book was published, I got a new hope. Finally, we’ve made it and hope the readers will love it.”

Sushmita S Das said, “Many a times, we have been afflicted by the unanswered queries regarding the unforeseen happenings of life. How Providence decides life and entraps the puny mortals in its clutches, making humans go through the meandering journey betwixt the twists and turns, where some savour the ride, whereas some fall prey to the quagmire of sorrow and despair, even relinquishing on failing to defy or combat the elusive and enigmatic play of Providence. Coincidence is a divine plan in disguise which has always baffled me…..

This strong phenomenon happens as if to derail humanity, and humiliate it for its inability to comprehend the world around itself – for coincidence defies logic; it defies probability; it defies the principles which humans have established to slightly understand the absurdity of events. But what’s actually debasing is that coincidence does not give one consolation to accept any occurrence as it is, for coincidence cannot be solely believed…
I developed the storyline based on these two themes which have always intrigued me.”
