Three More Cities of Odisha To Have Commissionerate Police System

Following the success of the Police Commissionerate System in the twin cities, the state government is now geared up to implement the same in three more cities of the state. This was announced by the Director General, Police Rajendra Prasad Sharma on the occasion of the 10th Raising Day of Commissionerate Police, which was observed at Seventh Battalion, Bhubaneswar on January 3rd.Sharma further said, “The government is planning to implement the Commissionerate Police system in three major cities of the state, namely Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur.’

Shedding light on the 10-year-old journey of Commissionerate Police in the twin cities, Sharma informed, “Basic policing has been the top priority of Commissionerate Police. Checking crimes against women and ensuring safety of senior citizens and justice for the weaker sections of the society have been our major focus areas. We have also tried taking up the challenge of traffic issue in an efficient manner. That apart, Bhubaneswar has become the most preferred city for hosting international sporting events, conferences, political and academic conclaves. The Commissionerate Police has also done its best to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of such events. Overall, the Commissionerate Police has been successful in providing quality service to the citizens in order to build a people friendly image. Speedy detection of crime, maintaining law and order and proactive measures for prevention of crime have been the hallmark of Commissionerate Police.”He also spoke on how the Commissionerate Police is focused on enhanching its technical knowledge to deal with new age crime and computer savvy criminals.

The programme also witnessed an award distribution ceremony wherein some of the best candidates from within the department and some from outside the department were felicitated for their exceptional service to the society.While Asim Kumar Panda and Banamber Sethi were awarded as the best ACPs, Ajaya Kumar Das was felicitated as the best Inspector In-Charge and best traffic constable award was given to Puspalata Bhoi. Director of ISD Subhashree Das was also felicitated with a memento along with other awardees.

Talking to MCL after the award ceremony, Asim Panda said, “Getting an award for best ACP is not just a kind of encouragement, it is also a responsibility that we have to ensure the public’s faith and trust on us in the days to come by discharging our duties more efficiently. Ever since I joined the Police Department, I have been working for the people of the state and I would continue to do so with the same spirit in future too.”

Among others, the event was attended by Police Commissioner Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, police officers, department staff, organisations and individuals associated with the department.
