We Take A Look At What’s In Store For The Fashionistas Of Bhubaneswar For New Year’s Eve

The year is about to end and winter has arrived. With all festivities in full swing, here is a look at what’s in store for Bhubaneswar’s fashionistas this New Year’s Eve!

Over the years, Bhubaneswar has witnessed stupefying style evolutions. From tantalizing sarees to cutesy dresses, we have seen it all. With new styles and looks being just around the corner, fashion has become one of the most volatile attractions in the city.

There does not exist a household in the city that is not up to date with all the latest fads, local or global. Ananya Mohanty, a middle-aged homemaker from Chandrasekharpur says, “I have always preferred Patta sarees for New Year parties. This year, I plan on wearing Kanjivaram silk.” While her daughter, Sweta Mohanty says, “Everyone will be wearing gowns and lehangas, so I plan on wearing a Mastaani suit.” Even after two years since Deepika Padukone donned the outfit in Bajirao-Mastani, the heat is still on.Clearly, Anju Modi is an evergreen genius! While some have planned to go all ethnic, others have opted for western alternates. Anulika Kar, a college student says, “I’ll wear a blue or maroon velvet dress if I’m only with my friends or parents. In case I end up celebrating New Year’s Eve with relatives, I’ll go with something ethnic or a fusion-wear.” Obviously, these parties will not be an Elie Saab haute couture, but Bhubaneswar is definitely going pretty Gigi and Gaga!

For those wondering that it is only the ladies planning their outfits, apologies for not quite complying with your thoughts. Dhairya Khimani, an avid fashion enthusiast says, “I will be wearing either a blazer or a tux. Depends on the mood. Who knows, I might even end up wearing khakis and a graphic-tee!” While, Aditya Mishra settling for a more casual look stated, “I’m planning on keeping it super chill, so perhaps a minimal black, grey, or white tee, distressed jeans, white or red sneakers, and a black jacket and I think I should be all set!”

All the planning and picking has got clothing outlets city-wide going bananas as well with sales reaching their peaks. Shweta from Reliance Trends says, “The reds, blues, and blacks are selling off like hotcakes mostly western-wear though. Our make-up sales have also gone up. Lipsticks, nail polishes and kaajal are in the highest demand.” To witness the craze first-hand, just take a stroll around our very own Market Building, or Sahid Nagar and have your fill! Manish Kar from Kala Mandir Royale says,“Everyone wants to buy the fanciest of things, whatever it is, suits, sarees or sherwanis. We do get people who do not show a liking towards our products, however, they do spend a lot of time!” With the world pacing faster everyday, shopping has become a source of closure for many adding even more charm to the holiday season.

“Bhubaneswar is changing because people are more concerned about their look these days. We see plenty of people planning their party outfits well in advance. I’m a creative designer and have always tried to be as inclusive of my culture with other cultures as possible, especially in my fusion designs. Presently, most prefer western wear for parties primarily in black, red, green, white or blue. Personally, I feel red and black is the best combination for New Year’s Eve,” says renowned Odia designer Ramakant Pattnaik, better known as Ramuli. The internationally acclaimed designer further adds, “Lines and cuts is the most preferred style in the city as of now but trends do keep changing. During the LA fashion week, my patta-painting collection was well appreciated all over. Due to the intricacies in the paintings as well as the fabric, around 150-200 weavers are provided with a livelihood, making this emerging trend a socially relevant one as well!”With New Year’s Eve parties around every corner of the city, it is obvious why it is mostly youngsters planning outfits and parties. The perspectives might vary in terms of dress-sense and theme, the majority will be partying nonetheless! The remainder includes the range from ‘stay in and celebrate with family’ to ‘tube-in on the couch’. All of which points to one direction; this year Bhubaneswar sure will see it all. From Sambalpuri sarees to ripped jeans to worn in pajamas; let’swelcome 2018 en vogue!
