When O-Town Men Turned into Damsels

When was the last time you saw a girl dressed as a guy and frowned? Probably, hardly ever. What happens when the opposite takes place? A guy dressed in a woman’s attire invites rebuke, criticism and comedy. Time and again, the entertainment industry has used male actors dressed as women for inducing laughter and comedic spurts. That’s one reason why Ollywood has also had a number of male actors who took on the garb of women on screen.

Arindam Roy in Kalki (2015):

In the Tapas Sargharia directorial film Kalki, the action hero of Ollywood Arindam played a double role where he was seen in the garb of a woman in his introductory scene. He played a transgender for a news show shot on the transgender community. Arindam is seen entering the channel studio in a woman attire and kills the channel head with the poisonous lipstick he had on his lips.

Babushan Mohanty in Sister Sridevi (2017):

Before the Ashok Pati directorial film ‘Sister Sridevi’ Ollywood Romeo Babushan was seen in the getup of a woman in the film ‘Super Michua’. However, his nurse getup in ‘Sister Sridevi’ earned more appreciation. The actor lost a lot of weight for the role to look similar to a girl. On top of that, his cute face supplemented the character very well.

Minaketan Das in Super Michua (2015):

One of the most versatile actors of Ollywood Minaketan Das was seen wearing a Saree in the Ashok Pati directorial film ‘Super Michua’. In that sequence, he was seen helping Babushan to get the lead actress elope her wedding.

Sabyasachi Mishra in Sasura Ghara Jindabad (2010):

Pagal Premi of Ollywood Sabyasachi created buzz in O-town when he turned into a woman for the Sanjay Nayak directorial film ‘Sasura Ghara Jindabad’. As per the plot, he enters the lead actor’s house as a transgender house cleaner and after marrying the girl, he teaches his wicked family a lesson.

Anubhav Mohanty in Chaati Chiri Dele Tu (2008):

Ollywood superstar Anubhav Mohanty played an innocent Hanuman devotee in the S K Muralidharan directorial movie ‘Chaati Chiri Dele Tu’. In one scene, Anubhav slips near a pond, where Dhobi places many Sarees to dry. Accidentally he is surrounded with them thus adding the comedic humour.

Siddhanta Mahapatra in Rakata Chinhichi Nijara Kie (1999):Ollywood Mega star Sidhanta Mahapatra was seen playing a dashing young person in the Basanta Sahoo directorial film ‘Rakata Chinhichi Nijara Kie’. In a song sequence of the film ‘Chuti Kati Jhia heichi Mem’ he was seen playing a prank on the actress and her friends by dancing in a woman Basketball player get up.

Uttam Mohanty in Paka Kambala Pota Chhata (1986):

Veteran actor Uttam Mohanty played the role of the driver of Aparajita in the Prashanta Nanda directorial film ‘Paka Kambala Pota Chhata’. In one scene, due to the shortage of Basketball players Uttam was forced by her to play in a women’s team along with Aparajita. He was seen playing basketball as a woman player in the film.

Sritam Das in Aunty Namaskar (unreleased):

In the year 2016 Actor Sritam Das announced and revealed some posters of the Niranjan Behera directorial film ‘Aunty Namaskar’, where he was seen wearing a Saree. Although the film is yet to release but Sritam was in news for the getup.

Sambeet Acharya and Harihara Mohapatra in Prem Weds Priya (2011):

Actor Sambeet and Harihara were seen dressed as women in the Ramashankar directorial film ‘Prem Weds Priya’. In the film, they essayed the role of struggling actors, which required them to audition for an agency, but were rejected since the agency needed female actors. That is when they find the bag of a woman on road and dress as women. Although comedian Harihara had played a woman on screen before, this is the first time Sambeet was seen in a woman getup.

Raimohan Parida in Asibu Kebe Saji Mo Rani (2010):

One of the popular villains of Ollywood, Raimohan was seen playing a transgender in the Manoranjan Pal directorial film ‘Asibu Kebe Saji Mo Rani’. Even though the film starred Akash Das Nayak, Raimohan turned out to be the main attraction and one of his dialogues ‘Mo Na Nagina Mora Sabuthi Chinha, bujhiba pila heithile thiki bujhibu’ became one of the most popular songs of the time.

Guddu in ‘Matric Fail’ (2012):

The voluptuous yet cute comedian of Ollywood, Guddu was seen in women’s attire in the Anubhav Mohanty-Barsha Priyadarshini starrer film ‘Matric Fail’ directed by Sudhakar Basant. He played the role of a prospective bride to Anubhav.

Akshaya Bastia in Mo Dil Kahe Ilu Ilu (2015):

Actor Akshaya Bastia was seen playing the role of a transgender maid in the Lokanath Barik directorial film ‘Mo Dil Kahe ilu ilu’. He played a one-sided lover in love with her owner’s (played by Mihir Das) son, the main lead of the film. In the story he was seen helping the villain to be with her ‘Dev Babu’
