Xavier School of Communications, Xavier University Bhubaneswar To Host Its Third International Conference

In these harrowing times, when the social media is narrowed down merely to be treated as an individual’s “self- broadcasting shrine” and functions only as a barometer to measure of popularity, it is essential to examine it in abroader perspective of exemplifying revolution in the field of communication both academically and socially. The Xavier School of Communications, Xavier University Bhubaneswar will host its third International Conference from December 15-16, 2017 with the theme “Social Media: The Changing Communication Environment”. It will provide a complete overview of this ever-expanding area of research and development.

Along with the international keynote speakers Ariel C Sebellino, Executive Director, Philippine Press Institute and Dr. Sharon Wilson from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia, other nationally recognized media veterans, scholars and academic advisors, the conference is a premier forum which will consolidatethe intellectual synergy of the participant. Around 46 research papers in nine sessions will be presented before several national andinternationally acclaimed media scholars who will gather for academic advancement and personal growth opportunities.

The speakers will share their expertise on social media with specific relevant topics ranging from education to technology, from business tosociety and social restructuring, from advancing theories tothe existing philosophies and many more. The exchange of ideas with industry veterans and research scholars will explore every facet of the present-day communication scene which will enrich the existing knowledge repositories.The fora will offer focused discussion to encourage intellectual stimulation.The aim being to trace the change in the course of communication in recent times, the platform will utilize the collective wisdom of the resource persons to further communication as a discipline.

In the last few years, such a prestigious platform had already generated scholarly interactions and academic engagements. At this year’s conference, selected research papers from the second International Conference will be released as a book titled “Media and Democracy” edited by Dr. George Sebastian SJ.

As the domain of communication has undergone a profound change within the last few years, the pursuit of knowledge in its every dimension is justified. Prof. Lourduraj Ignacimuthu SJ, Dean, Xavier School of communications (XCOMM) is the organizer along with Dr. Jolly Jose, Dr. NadiraKhatun and Prof Arpita Saha.

Faculty and students of media institutions at Bhubaneswar are welcome to attend the conference which will be held at Xavier University campus. Buses are organized to bring the students and faculty from their institutions.
