54 KIIT-KISS Athletes to Represent India at Asian Games 2026

A total of 54 student-athletes from KIIT and KISS will represent India at the 20th Asian Games, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, making it the largest contingent from a single Indian university at the Games.

The contingent includes 45 athletes in Athletics and nine others across Fencing, Rowing, Cycling, Hockey, Swimming and Rugby, covering seven sporting disciplines.

The number marks a significant rise from the 14 KIIT-KISS athletes who represented India at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023. Four athletes from the institution won medals at the previous edition: Tajinderpal Singh Toor won gold in Shot Put, Amit Rohidas secured gold with the men’s hockey team, while Kishore Kumar Jena and Tejaswin Shankar won silver medals in Javelin Throw and Decathlon respectively.

A special highlight for KIIT will be Tajinderpal Singh Toor representing India in Shot Put and serving as one of the country’s two flagbearers at the opening ceremony alongside double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker.

The contingent also reflects Odisha’s contribution to Indian sport, with nine athletes from the state. They include Amit Rohidas, Animesh Kujur and Srabani Nanda, along with athletes representing India in Hockey, Rowing, Cycling and Rugby.

Athletes such as Sunelita Toppo, Mama Naik, Nirmalya Rout and Dumuni Marndi also represent the sporting talent emerging from Odisha’s tribal communities.

Among the 45 athletes competing in Athletics are M. Shreeshankar, Praveen Chithravel, Tejaswin Shankar, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Jyothi Yarraji, Parul Chaudhary, Srabani Nanda and Ancy Sojan. The remaining athletes will compete in Fencing, Rowing, Cycling, Men’s and Women’s Hockey, Swimming and Women’s Rugby.

Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT, KISS and KIMS, congratulated the selected athletes and extended his best wishes for the Games. He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting athletes through training facilities, coaching, infrastructure and financial assistance.

The athletes expressed gratitude to the KIIT-KISS fraternity for its continued support and said they would give their best while representing India at the Games. The increase from 14 athletes at Hangzhou 2023 to 54 at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 highlights the growing participation of KIIT-KISS athletes on the international sporting stage.
