Apex Legends With Its Seamless Shooting Mechanics

Apex Legends hit 50 million active users last month after being launched for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows on February 4, 2019, as a free to play Battle Royale. The market for Battle Royales was already thriving with titles like Fortnite, Playeryerunknown’s Battlegrounds and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

The Battle Royale concept is simple, where multiple players drop on an uninhabited island where the primary objective is to gather guns, ammunition, and other resources necessary to survive. The last squad or individual that survives the shooting, punching and the diminishing zone will be crowned the victor of the Battle Royale. Fortnite is considered mammoth in both P.C and console gaming in the Battle Royale field, closing in on almost 250 million active players after reaching the coveted 200 million mark back in November.

Whereas, in the mobile gaming domain Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds or as it is popularly known as PUBG has procured 200 million downloads in India alone. Apex Legends impressed several Battle Royale enthusiasts with its futuristic graphics and seamless shooting mechanics that concentrated on being a genuine first-person shooter. It gained notoriety as a bona fide usurper willing to finally dethrone Fortnite and PUBG from their thrones.

By introducing legends or playable characters, Apex Legends has made players nostalgic of the old days, when Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Overwatch used to be the most popular shooting games (about two years ago).

Apex Legends currently has about nine playable characters or Legends, each with their respective tactical, special, and ultimate abilities. Popular characters include: Caustic-the unhinged scientist with his toxic Nox Gas grenades, the eccentric speed devil-Octane or my personal favourite, the carefree and adorable robot-Pathfinder. All of the characters are quirky and deliver riveting dialogues throughout the game.

Apex Legends had enjoyed a lot of initial success but in the last month, it seems as if the game is losing traction. Some analysts believe the drop to be at least 75 percent in Steam Viewership. This can be credited to the fact that there haven’t been frequent updates to the game in the maps and features. These issues can be resolved as Respawn Entertainment, the creator of Apex Legends has already pushed back dates of their upcoming title ‘Titanfall 3’ to focus on developing new maps, characters, and weapons in the new upcoming update. Another solution to this problem is introducing a mobile version of Apex Legends to replicate the success of PUBG in Asia. CEO of Electronic Arts Andrew Wilson had this to say

“As I said earlier, we are looking at how to take the game to mobile and cross-play over time, and I also expect that this game will have tremendous value in Asia, and we’re in conversations about that.”

There are no confirmations on a date, but it will not be released before September, 2019.

To get in on the action, you can download the game for free and the minimum requirements for running this game are Intel Core i3-6300, RAM-6GB, GPU RAM-1GB, Windows 7 or higher, and a minimum of 512 kbps of internet speed. The game size is 22GB and can run with a mobile hotspot after installation.

REVIEW

Apex Legends has phenomenal graphics and easily beats out its competition as it offers dynamic and fresh gameplay with incredibly fast action and adventure. As a first-person shooter, it is very engaging as it focuses more on shooting and its mechanics are almost seamless. The special abilities of different legends affect the outcome of the game to the fullest degree and characters like-Bangalore (Yes, there really is a character called Bangalore) can call in air strikes that have a devastating impact and causes havoc on massive scale. The game feels unrestricted in its playability, but it would be better if different modes would be allowed as playing in just squads gets boring. The map is also slowly getting stale as King’s Canyon needs fresh updates and new legends and weapons are always welcome. Season 2 could potentially unveil a new map and several other playable characters. Apex Legends also introduced the unique revival system that was recently cloned by Fortnite. The revival system that allows defeated players to be resurrected by their teammates was well received by fans of the Battle Royale genre.
