Babushan Goes Off-beat With ‘Daman’

Babushan Goes Off-beat With ‘Daman’

After the release of the Odia film I Love You in 2004, Ollywood audiences hardly witnessed any cinema other than love stories. Thanks to a new generation of actors and directors who are now at least into the process of making content driven films. In addition to that, the present superstar of the Odia film industry Babushan Mohanty’s upcoming film Daman’s trailer has created new hopes in the mind of the Odia cine lovers.

Released on Republic day, the trailer surprised Babushan’s fans as the star has been seen playing a non-glamorous role with no traditional female protagonist or fight scenes. COVID 19 related restrictions made the production team resort to digital media for the release of the promo.

Produced by Deependra Samal under the banner J P Motion Pictures, starring Babushan along with Dipanwit Mohapatra in lead roles, this film is directed by the duo Vishal Mourya and Debiprasad Lenka.

Based on real events, the film tells the story of a doctor who fearlessly conducts his duties without caring about any consequences. His struggle for making people aware of the fact that malaria cannot be cured through superstitions but through proper awareness among the people in the remote places of Odisha, where there is not even a telephone tower or any other means of proper communication. As we all know that Odisha is among the top contributors of Malaria and yet no proper steps have been taken to raise this issue. This is the story of an impossible and incredible journey of a doctor who is desperate to save the people of Malkangiri from Malaria.

Adding more about the project, Vishal said to My City Links, “We started working on this project in mid 2020. I and Debi had researched for more than a year on the subject. Previously we had done a documentary in Malkangiri, so we saw closely the lives of the tribal people and the people who serve there. So, we came up with the idea of making a feature film on the area and Daman came into existence.

Glad with the response from fans and well wishers Babushan said, “I have tried something which I am not used to. So I believe my audience will also accept me in such a challenging character like they have shown their love and support for me in my previous films.”

“We faced many difficulties during the shoot in around 43 remote locations of Koraput and Malkangiri. We shot in remote areas where no roads and no means of transport were available. The crew had to travel through rivers, mountains and patchy roads. Except Babushan and Dipanwit the rest of the crew were selected from the local areas.” added Debi while talking about the shoot of the film.

Soon the release date of the film will be announced. We are planning for a Hindi trailer which will be released soon to attract nationwide audiences. We believe it has the potential to put Odia films on a national level. Our team is also in touch with Star and Zee simultaneously hoping to get it released on a national level OTT platform.
