Bappi Lahiri’s Contribution in Two Odia Films

Like other legendary singers of the country including Mohd. Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, etc, legendary music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri has also contributed to Odia films. He has composed music for the Odia movie Michha Maya Sansara released in 1989 and also sung the title track of the film Mo Dunia Tu Hi Tu released in 2013. He is the man who popularised disco music in India in the 80s and 90s. Lahiri breathed his last at a private hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday. He was 69.

Story by P. D. Mehra, dialogue by Shirsananda Das Kanungo, screenplay by Jagmohan Kapoor and directed by Uday Shankar Pani, the bilingual Odia-Bengali movie Michha Maya Sansara has five songs. The star cast included Pradeep Kumar, Beena, Papia Adhikari, Uttam Mohanty, Bijay Mohanty, Dukhiram Swain, Biswajit, Debu Bose, Shyamalendu, Sujata Anand, Aparajita, Gayatri Chand and Abhi. Ekeun Sahara Kemiti Sahara sung by Amit Kumar and Uttar Kelkar was a popular song of the film. And the other songs on the album are Aie Subha Dina Ase, Baya Mana Michhe Ete, Keta Au Khojibi Bata and Mangala Maya.

Directed by Sudhakar Basanta and story by Basant Raj Samal the film, Mo Dunia Tu Hi Tu has Anubhav Mohanty and Varsha Priyadarshini in lead roles. The cast of the film also includes actors like Minaketan Das, Siddhanta Mahapatra, Salil Mitra, Prutiviraj Nayak, Jiban Panda, Debashis Parta and Pratibha Sahu. Popular Odia singer Ira Mohanty has shared the mic for this duet song of the film composed by the veteran composer Malay Mishra.
