Bhubaneswar Experiences First Burpees With Breakfast With Happy Boy

In the last few years, health and fitness has become a welcome trend all over the country
including Odisha. Thanks to Bollywood, fitness is a raging topic among the youth. With the
fitness industry booming like never before, newer forms of exercising and diets have started making inroads into our daily lives. Fitness is not always about having the perfect six pack abs or bulging biceps; it is more than that. Just like many other things, the pandemic has forced us to focus on a healthy lifestyle and diet.

On November 29, Bhubaneswar witnessed the first ‘Burpees with Breakfast’ session with Subhadeep Ray Choudhury who is also known as ‘Happy Boy’ in the world of fitness. Choudhury and his team conducted the session to introduce the denizens of Bhubaneswar to burpees and it was not all about sweating it out. The post burpees breakfast was the icing on the cake on a chilly winter morning on the terrace of Cafe Sundowner.

The session drew a mixed crowd of around 15 participants that included young college goers, business men and women, corporate professionals and entrepreneurs. The session started at 7:30 am and went on till 10 am. Burpee is a full body fitness exercise that is used for strength training and as an aerobic exercise. It can be done to improve one’s agility, coordination and strength.

“I am a person who is lazy when it comes to doing core workouts but Happy made it so exciting for me today. Such events should keep happening in Bhubaneshwar regularly. The breakfast organised by the Cafe Sundowner was the icing on the cake. After an intense session, the healthy meal was much required and for a fitness freak like me, I exactly got what I needed.” said Sheena Malhotra, Businesswoman, mother and fitness influencer who participated in the session.

Echoing similar sentiments, another participant Sumeet Sahoo, a risk advisory consultant with EY and Founder of Robinhood Army Bhubaneswar said, “It was an amazing start to what I expect to be a wholesome fitness journey ahead in the temple city. The workout was intense. Happy made sure we were all focused till the last beat. Breakfast spread had calorie listings which was definitely a winner apart from being super delicious! I am looking ahead for more such meetups.”

Choudhury who hails from Kolkata and is based out of Mumbai did his graduation at KIIT. He spent five years in Bhubaneswar during his college days and has been actively involved in sports and fitness. He believes that a 30-minute workout everyday is enough to keep us fit as a fiddle. He also believes that fitness is not just about six-pack abs but about being happy with ourselves and that can happen when we are fit.

The breakfast at the end of the intense workout session perfectly complemented the philosophy of ‘a healthy body and a tasty and balanced diet’. Talking about the spread Choudhury said, “The spread we curated today was about promoting a healthy diet. We had poha with chicken curry which was inspired from the menu of The Bombay Canteen. For vegetarians we had oats poha with chole. We also had humus, pita, spanish omelette, oats dosa and oats uttapam.” The young fitness enthusiast doesn’t believe in protein supplements and things like that. He feels diet should not be restrictive but we must have a balance of everything. Subhadeep is a full time lawyer and a company secretary. He discovered that working out made it easier for him to hustle through everyday work pressure.

Talking about his future plans he said, “We are planning to host something like this again in December and it will be burpees and brunch. Apart from the breakfast and brunch with burpees, I want to introduce some new and fun things like beer with burpees, open workout parties and fitness retreats. My biggest dream is to open a fitness studio which will not be a gym. There will be all kinds of facilities like weights and calisthenics but no machines and one will be free to do whatever they want to.”

Apart from Choudhury, his team consists of Selina Patnaik who is looking into the planning and organising of events, Chetna Patnaik, who does the creative designing for the team and Jagrit, a techie based out of Bangalore takes care of the tech aspects for the team.
