Bhubaneswar Runway Week’s 8th Edition: An Extravagant Celebration Fashion and Tradition
Bhubaneswar, the capital city of the Indian state of Odisha, hosted the eighth edition of the Bhubaneswar Runway Week (BRW) on April 1st and 2nd, 2023. The event was sponsored by Evos, powered by CHARM and Reflection, in association with SNM group, and featured twelve designers and nine showstoppers. Organised by Addiction Fashion Management, and curated by show director John Ajay, BRW showcased the latest collections of these brilliant designers to an eager audience.

On the first day, Prieya’s collection named “khwaaish” was inspired by the traditional delicate embroidery style of chikankari from Lucknow. This collection was a fusion of style and tradition, and included new embellishments like gota patti, mirror, and sequins, adding lustre to the chikankari work.
Dapper Dally by Devangini Behera showcased a collection named “vintage bennett.” The collection focused on the old literary form and was accompanied by gloves and pearls.
Blossoms Couture by Manish and Avipsa presented ‘Pothee – A Muted Revolution’. This collection had a very antique yet fresh vibe, with a touch of a muted colour story. The vitals of this collection were bold drapes, nostalgic pleats and folds, and Indo-western silhouettes.

Texas Jeans showcased its wide collection of denims, while Daksha Design Studio by Savitri Panigrahi presented its summer collection named ‘Summer Beats’, featuring floral prints, vibrant colours, and basic silhouettes.
The Earthy Hues Couture Fashion collection ‘Mukteshwar’ by Designer Satya Moharana was a fine presentation of French Couture and Drapes using Odisha handloom made by our weavers from Maniabandha Ikkat cluster and Gopalpur Tussar Cluster, using authentic Traditional Silver Filigree jewellery.
On the second day, Sakshi Handlooms by Pradeep Shahari showcased his creations, featuring his passion for ‘Sambalpuri Ikat’ and having many shows across India to his credit.
AJ Fashion, led by Selina Doson, focused on bringing a new level of magnetism to children’s clothing. According to Selina, children’s clothing is often limited to cute designs, but her team, ‘Glamour Girl’, aims to introduce a unique and sophisticated look for children.

Label Bahaar is the brainchild of Lopamudra Bhanj. She believes that painting is the silence of thought and the music of sight. Her six-yard seascape design is a unique artistic expression that seeks to make every trousseau a treasure for women to possess.
Priths by Pritam Pal highlighted how beauty can be adorned with the cottony, soft pastels in their collection, ‘Pastel Bride’, which featured traditional colours and fits in a modern and sophisticated style.

Nikita’s couture by Nikita Nayak showcased ‘Martini’, a luxurious cocktail outfit collection inspired by the perfect blend of style, comfort, and fashion.
Label Tanya Ray by Tanya Ray, an alumna of Pearl Academy of Designs Mumbai, wowed the audience with her contemporary and quirky Spring Summer couture design collection ‘Bloom’, inspired by the beautiful flowers in her father’s garden.
The show stoppers for the event were Divita Rai, Miss Universe India, who walked as showstopper for Sakshi Handloom by Pradeep Shahari. Pragnya Ayyagari, Miss Diva Super National, walked as showstopper for Tanya Ray. Actress Prakruti Mishra walked as showstopper for Priya Mohapatra, and Agami Anubhuti, also an actress, walked as showstopper for Blossoms Fashion Couture by Manish and Avipsa. Bhoomika Dash, an actress, walked as showstopper for Daksha Design Studio by Savitri Panigrahi, and Subhasish Sharma, also an actor, walked as showstopper for Satya Moharana. Shivani Sangeeta, an actress, walked as showstopper for Selina Doson, and Suryamayee Mohapatra, also an actress, walked as showstopper for Bahaar by Lopamudra Bhanj. Lastly, Actress Debjani Deghuria walked as showstopper for Nikita couture by Nikita Nayak.

Apart from the designer collections, the event also saw the felicitation of My City Links that has been promoting Odisha’s culture and heritage for over a decade.
The Bhubaneswar Runway Week is a highly anticipated event in the fashion industry that showcases the work of some of the most talented designers from around the country.
