Breezy and Beautiful: How to Wear Organza for a Chic Summer Look
Whether it’s the wedding season, family functions, parties, or get-togethers, women always look for fabrics that are comfortable and easy to carry. As a tropical country, India experiences harsh summers. In Odisha, where summers are hot and humid, the fashion culture emphasizes the need for comfortable and airy clothing to stay cool. Organza fabric perfectly fits the bill with its lightweight texture and stylish appearance, making it an ideal choice for the season.
In recent years, there has been a considerable growth in the demand for organza, which is widely popular among women due to its sheer finish and lightweight feel on the body. Traditionally made from silk by weaving it with synthetic filament fibers such as nylon and polyester, organza is a thin and lightweight fabric.
Unlike chiffon and georgette, organza doesn’t leave the skin irritated, and its breathable attribute makes it the best pick for all special occasions. Fashion designers and bloggers believe that this luminous fabric has made a comeback in the Indian market in the past few years and is here to stay.
This material feels gentle on the skin and is widely preferred due to its body-friendly feature.
During a conversation with My City Links, Sukanya Jha, a Fashion Design aspirant, shared in detail about the structure of organza fabric. She said, “Organza is made from warp and weft threads, which are two opposing threads woven together in the weaving process. This fabric has the same size, and they have the same number of picks per inch and ends per inch. Its quality is measured in terms of holes per inch (HPI) instead of thread count. Organza is highly popular for western wedding and evening wear. It has a simple weave and is one of the lightest fabrics, referring to a thin, plain weave, and a sheer fabric made from continuous filaments of silk yarn. In this modern fashion era, many organza fabrics are woven with synthetic filament fibers like nylon and polyester, but most stylish organza fabrics are woven in silk, depending on the quality.”
Jha, who specializes in textile designing, further highlighted, “The most popular products made of organza fabric are bags. This fabric is known for its transparency and high breathability. Due to its delicate nature, organza fabric cannot be washed in a washing machine. Instead, it is necessary to wash this type of fabric by hand or dry clean it.”
According to Priyanka Sahoo, a Visual Merchandise Head at a retail firm, “As women, we have so many responsibilities to fulfill on a day-to-day basis, for which clothing becomes a topmost priority. We need clothes that not only make us look elegant but also provide comfort while we are managing work. Especially for working women, choosing the right fabric becomes essential to balance their household duties along with professional commitments. As a Visual Merchandiser, I have observed customers being attracted towards ethnic organza dresses such as kurti sets, sarees, and dupattas, as well as western wear like skirts, organza shirts, and scarves. Personally, I prefer to wear an organza saree for any work-related function, conference, or event, as well as for family-related functions.” added Priyanka.
Here are some styling tips for this trending fabric:
Lehenga
Whether you are a bridesmaid, groom’s sister, or simply a wedding guest, this easy breezy textile will keep you comfortable while you look stunning at the same time. You can pick vibrant colors from the pink, burgundy, or wine families for your lehenga or even go with pastels with beautiful floral prints in contrasting hues. Match your lehenga with heavy minakari or Polki jewelry and carry your favorite sequined clutch, and you are ready to steal the show.

Saree
Whether it’s weddings or meetings, we all want to look our best. Sarees, as an age-old outfit, never go wrong as an option, but draping them can be a task at times. Fret not, as organza sarees do the job for you with their flowy nature. Wrap it up the way you want to be in line with the occasion, and pair it with lightweight jewelry to turn heads. The right shade of lipstick and a smokey eye will elevate the look even more.

Evening Gowns
If you are looking for fabric options to customize your gown, then organza would be the most appropriate pick. Whether you wish to design it for an engagement or a cocktail party, this fabric will come in handy when blended with other fabric materials for layering. It is easy to carry unlike silk and velvet gowns, and additionally, it provides a lean appearance.

Beach Dress
Planning for a vacation? If yes, then a beach dress should be at the top of your packing list. Organza as a fabric is very flowy which gives a comfort that is most sought by everyone, especially while we travel. So, what are you waiting for? Get your organza beach dress so that you look stunning in your vacation pictures.

Shrugs
Our closet remains incomplete without a shrug. This piece of outfit tops the priority list since it comes in handy for styling all kinds of clothes. Be it simple denim with a tank top, a pair of shorts with a crop top, a sheath dress, or even a bikini, a shrug instantly completes the look while adding funkiness to it. While already wearing 2-3 garments, no one prefers additional weight on the body. Here, organza comes into play to solve your problem and make you look stylish. Add an organza shrug to your wardrobe and pair it up with any of your outfits.

Scarves
Be it a simple outing or a date, a scarf rightly provides you the desired feminine edge when placed around the neck. Unlike the woollen or cotton scarf, organza doesn’t sit on your body due to its lightweight nature and airy quality which is why it is suitable as a scarf. Additionally, it doesn’t feel heavy around the neck and keeps breathing easy.

Dupatta
What doesn’t look good when in pairs? Like our bread makes the morning wonderful along with some butter, similarly a dupatta always makes a salwar-kameez complete. As a fabric, organza is always dyed with pastel shades on which the prints turn out to be brighter. This helps in pairing any organza dupatta with dark coloured kurti or salwar-kameez. Pick your boring kurtis to style with a silk blend organza dupatta and you’re ready for office, hangouts or simply shopping.

My City Links caught up with some fashionistas to understand the importance of organza as a fabric for them and how they make use of it.
Ankita Samartha, an English Professor and resident of the old town in Bhubaneswar, mentioned to us, “The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear organza is ‘comfort.’ Organza is undoubtedly the most comfortable and lightweight fabric. Whenever I opt for an organza saree for any function, it makes me look royal and bourgeoisie.”
Sister duo Suchi Sastry and Asha Sastry said, “Recently, we had a wedding at our home in which, for pre-wedding rituals like haldi, mehendi, and sangeet, we decided on organza as a theme outfit. All our female wedding guests wore yellow organza sarees as per the haldi theme, and for sangeet, we opted for organza skirts which looked so graceful while we were all dancing,” mentioned the sisters with happiness.
Pick organza as your clothing buddy, and it will never disappoint you. Make a beautiful addition to your wardrobe with this trending fabric and keep yourself sorted whenever any occasion or outing is around the corner.
Happy Clothing!
