CM Mohan Majhi Urges Officials to Stay Prepared for Waterlogging During Monsoon
CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the recurring issue of waterlogging in the state capital and directed officials to stay alert and prepared for the monsoon season.
Speaking at a revenue officers’ workshop, Majhi highlighted the heavy rainfall in Bhubaneswar’s Old Town on Tuesday, which led to road damage and water stagnation. “It rained so heavily that drainage failed, and the road was damaged before Asadha month even began,” he noted, warning of possible urban flooding and infrastructure damage during peak monsoon.
The CM stressed the importance of following standard operating procedures (SOPs) to manage such situations effectively.
Tuesday’s rain caused major damage to the Badagada Canal road in the Old Town area, disrupting access to the main road. Concerned locals voiced their frustration to Mayor Sulochana Das during her site visit.
To tackle the issue, the CM has already instructed BMC to complete all ongoing drainage and desiltation work by June 20.
Earlier, Majhi chaired a high-level meeting with the Housing and Urban Development Department and directed them to take immediate steps to address waterlogging in vulnerable zones like the Iskcon Temple area, Cuttack Road, Ahalya Nagar, Ayurveda College, and other low-lying areas in Bhubaneswar.
