CM Naveen Flagged Off Bhubaneswar-Jeypore Direct Flight Service

CM Naveen Patnaik  flagged off the much-awaited Bhubaneswar-Jeypore direct flight under the UDAN scheme at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA)  at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

The flight will depart from Bhubaneswar airport at 11:35 a.m. daily and reach Jeypore at 1:20 p.m. The return flight will take off from Jeypore airport at 4.05 p.m. and arrive at Bhubaneswar airport at 5:50 p.m.

The service will be available six days a week and only one flight will fly every day carrying nine passengers. The ticket fare per passenger will be Rs 2500, said sources.

Ahmedabad-based IndiaOne Air, which is operating flight operations from Bhubaneswar to Jeypore, had announced an introductory offer of Rs 999 till November 9.

Jeypore Airport was granted a licence for airport operations by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) under Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) on October 20. The flight service will bring down the 12-hour journey between Bhubaneswar and Jeypor by road to 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The airstrip was constructed in 1962 along with the establishment of a Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) factory nearby Sunabeda. In the 1980s, Vayudoot operated a daily Bhubaneswar-bound flight via Visakhapatnam. It was upgraded into an airport under the UDAN scheme in 2017.
