Cuttack’s Silver Jewellery Shines Bright in Shreya’s ‘Ladka Baimaan’
After delivering chartbuster ‘Prada’ in 2019, Bollywood singer Shreya Sharma is back with ‘Ladka Baimaan’ and Odias can’t stop talking about it. In the song, Shreya is seen wearing a pair of silver earrings bought exclusively from Cuttack.
Shreya, whose outfits have also drawn a lot of appreciation, said, “I am wearing silver earrings that I got from Cuttack in Odisha many years back. I am in complete awe of the beauty of silver and filigree work of Cuttack. I have a large collection of bracelets and other jewellery from Cuttack which I wear on different occasions frequently.”
The singer believes that contemporary music videos are an effective medium to promote tradition and culture with a touch of modernisation. “It’s like we are building an indigenous pop culture of India, germinated and rooted here. Though at a nascent stage, it is coming from a culture and a country that has some beautiful jewellery. It is commercial and mainstream. I think the fusion is happening and now is the time to modernise Indian jewellery, clothes, etc. We should look at it from a different perspective. For example, I once saw a fashion blogger wearing a leather saree which I found so cool. The next thing I remember is buying a leather saree in Delhi. That’s how such promotion works,” she said.
Shreya debuted with the independent track ‘Prada’ by Doorbeen. She shared the screen with actress Alia Bhatt in the song. However, her latest track has her solo feature. She said, “When people listen, like and appreciate my music, I feel that’s the greatest reward for me as a musician. I know that ‘Prada’ received a lot of love and now ‘Ladka Beimaan’ is getting appreciated. I am happy that people are relating to it.”

Speaking about her new song, Shreya said the whole process was interesting. “Diesby and I have worked on a couple of songs together. We were jamming around the idea and the hook line of ‘Ladka Baimaan’ caught my attention. I immediately knew I was doing it. Initially, it was transitioning into a love song but we figured out from our experiences that it should be a song symbolising moving on, going from strength to strength,” she informed.
Lyrics and music are the two major factors that ensure the popularity of a song. According to Shreya, lyrics are the absolute attraction of a song. “I have been getting countless feedback for lyrics. Lyrics have played a major role in making this song audience-friendly,” she expressed.
Apart from the song, Shreya’s glamorous look has created a buzz amongst listeners. The singer said being a camera-shy person, she was nervous. “But luckily, I had a great team to support me. The director of the video was very supportive. His wife, a choreographer, helped me get the correct expressions, poses and angles. From DOP to the cameraperson, all of them deserve credit for the song,” she said.
Sharing her views on contemporary music, Shreya said, “The genre is gaining popularity. After a long time, independent music is getting its due. I think pop culture in India could grow more because masses across the country listen to Bollywood music. This is a fact to celebrate.”
