Embrace The Winter Chills En Vogue

Embrace The Winter Chills En Vogue

In this strangest of years, new trends continue to ravage the industry and fashion mania has never been so moot. So much has happened since the pandemic grappled the world, but being in vogue has still been the maxim for mental exertion as well. Undoubtedly, the pandemic has given us a renewed sense of perspective on fashion’s relentless pace and its voracious desire for newness. Besides, we are all quite adept with the basic tenet of fashion that it has the power to exemplify your day, inspiring and edifying you in equal measure.

Quoting House Stark’s motto from the Game Of Thrones, “Winter is coming,” we too have started feeling the chills of the season. Winter does not only mean getting drowned in hoards of clothes. The correct fashion codes can help keep you warm as well as make you the star with exhilarating style statements, besides uplifting your spirits immeasurably. The chill, the huddles and the feeling of cold nostalgia will probably hit all of us in the coming few weeks. In this very unusual year in the fashion world, My City Links brings to you some well-lauded trends for the winter of 2021!

Fabric And Embroidery

The fabric of the wear or clothing is of the utmost importance when one designs for a particular season. If cotton clothes are synonymous with summer wear, woolen clothing is a must for the winters. However, besides woolen garments, there is a whole range of other fabrics and textiles that can up the game in both style and comfort. Silk, velvet and furs are well-worn during the winters. Velvet or silk sarees are the best ways to wear ethnic traditional clothing that also helps you keep warm. Similarly, one can opt for silk kurtis or embroidered salwar suits that not only look ethereal but also provide the body with enough warmth.

“Imperial fabrics can be opted for this frosty season. The best thing is that you get a perfect chance to flaunt the elegance of silk and velvet which is difficult to be clothed in, in any other season but winter. Embroidery gives it a more subtle yet dignified look,” said Arifa Firdaus Khanum.

Style It With A Shawl

Shawls are one of the most traditional winter wear. They look gorgeous and can be wrapped around regardless of the attire. A shawl looks splendid with ethnic clothing, such as a saree, salwar suit, or even lehenga. On the other hand, it looks chic with other outfits too, including jeans, leggings, kurtis and whatnot. It looks good both on men and women and will undoubtedly keep you warm. The Kashmiri shawls- pashmina, and shahtoosh are some types of exemplary woven shawls that look wonderful, be it for their texture, embroideries, or fabrics.

“Traditional wear is something that has no alternative for every occasion or season. In winter as well, the fashion of draping shawls on a saree or salwar, makes it look so elegant and outstanding. Shawls give a total look while maintaining the Indianness that you want to portray,” said Preetijyotsna Deo.

Jackets And Capes

Contrary to conventional belief, jackets are not only about black or brown leather. Traditional jackets, such as a koti or Nehru jacket can be paired with any ethnic clothing. The koti, for instance, can be tailored in silk and they come in beautiful embroidery and colors. Similarly, the Nehru jacket can also add an extra charm and warmth to the classical kurta churidar combination. Heavily embroidered jackets look regal with anarkalis and sarees too. Some of the other traditional ethnic overcoats and jackets include the Banarasi trench coat, brocade overcoat, silk cape, gamthi jacket, and more.

For Keshab Agrawal, winter is the best time for boys to bring out their inner fashionista. “A pair of rugged jeans, a white tee and a jacket is all that one wants to look stylish yet sophisticated. This is my go-to outfit in winter. Special occasions call for the evergreen Nehru jacket which again compliments a guy’s look to the fullest,” he said.

Long Sleeves And Sweater Tops

Where sleeveless clothing is most comfortable during summers, full sleeves jump up in trend during winters. Wearing full-sleeved velvet or silk garments will keep you warm and add a welcome twist to your fashion sense. Long sleeve blouses can be paired with lehengas, sarees, kurtis and salwar kameez. On the other hand, if it’s too cold, why not just make a cropped sweater as your saree blouse!

“Fashion has no limits. You can always try out this or that, here or there. What I mean is that you can always interchange and experiment with your look. Instead of remaining stagnant with your choices, always explore. It is freezing cold outside and you have to attend your best friend’s wedding dinner party, what do you do? I would suggest a long sleeved crop top styled with lehenga. It will protect you from the cold and give you that outstanding profile in the party,” suggested Nikita Gupta, a second-year student of National Institute Of Fashion And Technology, Bhubaneswar.

Fusion Wear

Pairing together ethnic attires with western wear is a wonderful mix of the traditional with the modern. A trench coat on the saree, a leather jacket on the lehenga choli or a cropped jacket on a kurti – all look extremely fashionable and take the comfort level up several notches. With many celebrities donning fusion looks, it’s no wonder then that east meets west equals a style and snug statement.

Somalini Routray loves experimenting with her attire every now and then. And winter sure enough gives her more occasion and styling opportunities. “I am a fusion girl. I cannot stay concentrated on one particular stream of fashion. Mix and match is what makes it all funky and funny-looking. Try out a plain white shirt with your heavy lehenga bottom and a heavy neck piece. It completely changes the game. The whole attire comes out really good without compromising on your comfort level,” she suggested.

Practical Clothing Tactics

Some people are not really much into fashion or keeping up the latest trends. For them, winters are actually a great time for many reasons. The most important being that it hardly matters what one really wears. Just throw a sweatshirt, jacket, or cardigan on the top and you are done. There is no need to really make sure that you are a synchronized, color-coded walking christmas tree. As long as you are warm and cozy, that is about it. In fact, winter clothing is very convenient for non-fashionistas because most of them probably have sweaters and jackets that are only black, brown, or blue. And these monochrome colors just about fit and go with anything. Add to that, socks and shoes or boots to do away with any matching footwear altogether. Besides, who wears accessories with a cardigan anyway! And so winter clothing turns out to be an extremely comfortable solution for those who do not care much for fashion.

Winter fashion wears are, in fact, quite popular, and in demand. Most people like to dress up, pair up accessories and look presentable in all seasons and occasions. So put on your thinking hat and plan out your winter wear to look the best this winter.
