Excerpts from an interview

So, tell us more about your incredible journey to the Mrs India Queen of Substance Pageant.
It was a roller coaster ride with many highs and lows. My friend suggested me to participate in the contest. I filled up the form out of curiosity. There was an extensive telephonic interview first. I had to go through several screenings before I reached the finale. I put my heart and soul into the pageant. At times I questioned myself if it was worth so much of efforts as my daughter fell ill during the course of the contest. I had to juggle between several roles. The hurdles were a lot, but the moment I was crowned, the thunderous roar of the crowd and my new-found identity was more than I could ever ask for!
Did your family support your participation?
My entire family encouraged and supported me. My husband is my biggest strength. He is my Mr India with an invisible crown. He instilled confidence and courage in me. I have won for him! He embraces my dreams as his and always fans the flame in me. My two-year-old daughter also stood by me like a tiny yet strong shield. Even though she was ill that time she could understand that her Mumma was up to something, so she like a brave little girl waited for me with patience.
Who is your role model?
My mother is my role model. My mother has always stood by me like a rock. She has always encouraged me to aim for the sky. Mere words cannot describe the amount of inspiration I draw from her.

Do you think marriage is a stumbling block for a modern woman in her path to success?
Well, marriage is the best thing that happened to me. If your better half understands you and values your dreams and aspirations, nothing can stop you from reaching the zenith of success. Before choosing a life partner, make sure that there is understanding, compassion and respect for one another. Then the marriage will be the trump card for any couple instead of an obstacle.
A message you want to give to all the ladies who aspire to participate in beauty pageants like these!
Well, step out of your comfort zone. There will be struggle, there will be times when you will wonder that your destination is a distant dream but do not lose faith on yourself. Be yourself, search for your own voice amidst the noise and nothing can stop you from being an achiever. Do not believe in people who keep saying that you cannot do something or that your dream is an impossible one. Just go and make the impossible possible!
