India and Pakistan Announce Full Ceasefire After US-Mediated Talks, Says Trump

India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire, announced former U.S. President Donald Trump in a post on Truth Social. He stated that the decision was reached after an intense night of U.S.-mediated discussions.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations to both countries for using common sense and great intelligence.”

Soon after, India confirmed the development. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the DGMOs (Director Generals of Military Operations) from both nations spoke at 3:35 PM and agreed to halt all military actions—by land, air, and sea—from 5:00 PM onwards. They are set to speak again on May 12 at noon.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also shared the update, noting that the two countries had reached an understanding to end military hostilities. He reiterated India’s firm stance against terrorism and assured continued action against it.

The ceasefire follows recent escalations, including a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror bases in Pakistan and PoK, reportedly killing over 100 militants.

Among the targets were the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Muridke HQ and Jaish-e-Mohammed’s Bahawalpur base—long tracked by Indian agencies for their role in past attacks.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the ceasefire and said Pakistan continues to advocate for peace without compromising its sovereignty.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio added that he and Vice President JD Vance had been in active discussions with both nations' leadership to help facilitate the agreement, despite previously downplaying U.S. involvement.
