Jagannath Temple To Be Under Section 144 For Snana Purnima

The Puri district administration has decided to impose Section 144 ahead of Snana Yatra in Puri on June 5. The order is to be implemented in the areas that are in close proximity of the temple. This will be done as a precautionary measure to avoid large congregations of devotees.

The Puri Collector said that the prohibitory order will remain in force from 10 PM on June 4 to 2 AM on June 6. The prohibitory order will be invoked in Market Chhak to Kakudikhai Chhak, Marichikote Chhak to Labanikhia Chhak via Marichikote Lane, Labanikhia Chhak to Dolamandap Sahi Road via Jenarigachha Chhak and Janhimundia Chhak to Balisahi Road via Bhogajaga and Khuntia Sahi Chhak.

It will also cover the areas from Khuntia Sahi Chhak to Sudarshan House Guest House Chhak via Kadambagada Chhak on Balisahi Road, Sudarshan House Guest House Chhak to Machha Hata Chhak on Harchandi Sahi Road via Barahi Chhak and Panchuati Jaga, Machha Hata Chhak to Brusabha Chhak on Lokanath Road via Sitalapinda Chhak, Barabati Jaga and Baithaki Pinda, Brusabha Chhak to Pande Jaga via Chhapana Chhak, Mangala Hata Mallika Chhak, Bali School, Mishra Sahi and Satabakhara Jaga and Pande Jaga to Marichikote Chhak via UP School in Chudanga Sahi, Chudanga Sahi Chhak, Banambar Chhak, Sani Mandir and Indian Bank Chhak.

The district administration has requested people not to congregate in these prohibited areas during the rituals of the deities at the Snana Mandap. The Snana Purnima celebration is one of the most important rituals on the cultural calendar of Jagannath.

The Government of Odisha has decided to broadcast the Snana Purnima celebrations live from the temple which will be held in the early morning hours of June 5.
