‘Krishna: Story Of A Dancer’ On Big Screen Soon

The story of Krishna Mohan Reddy, the dancing sensation of Odisha who heads the famous Prince Dance Group of Berhampur, will soon unfold on the big screen. Interestingly, Krishna himself has ventured into a new arena of filmmaking to make this possible. That’s not all. He is also the lead hero, producer, story, script, dialogue and screenplay writer besides co-composing the music for the film, ‘Krishna: Story of A Dancer’, for which a state-wide promotion is underway.

Krishna came to limelight when Prince Dance Groupwon the TV reality show ‘India’s Got Talent’ in 2009, leaving everyone spellbound with their scintillating performances. Since then, they haven’t looked back.

The film is all set to showcase this inspiring journey of Krishna and Prince Dance Group. The audio release of the film, which took place recently, has already received great response at Berhampur, Bhubaneswar and Rayagada. “We are now planning further promotion of the film at different places in near future”, Krishna Mohan Reddy told My City Links.

Celebrated singers including Ananya Sritam Nanda, Krishna Beura, Navya Jaiti, Arpita Chowdhury, Satyajit Jena, Humane Sagar and Sasank Sekhar Mohapatra have sung the songs in the film.

“This film showcases the life struggle of the members of Prince Dance Group who scripted a success story, from being daily wage earners to overnight stars. The film is based on their real-life stories. It has an entertainment value but with a message for the youth. Movies on dance such as Hollywood’s ‘Step Up’ and Bollywood’s ‘ABCD’ have been big hits and we want to create a similar effect in the Odia film industry as there are no such films in Odia,” Krishna said.

“We have spent Rs 1.20 crore on this film and we are waiting a good distributor to release this dream project across all decent cinema halls in the state,” he added. “We had planned the project during February 2017 and the ‘mahurat’ took place in November. The entire film was shot in 55 days,” Reddy said.

The leading lady of the film is Suryamayee Mohapatra, who has a couple of Odia movies and a Bhojpuri movie to her credit and was also Miss Vizag, second runner-up in 2014.

Talking to MCL, she said, “This is a biopic which will be worth watching as the story is so inspiring.” The other star cast includes Soumesh from Chhattisgarh, the villain in the film and Pushpa Panda who has played the role of Krishna’s mother. All the team members of the dance group have also acted in this movie, having undergone acting classes for six months to do justice to their roles. That apart, the film stars about 250 to 300 dancers who have been stage choreographed by Pabitra Pradhan.

The two-and-half hours docu-drama has been shot across various locations in Berhampur, Gopalpur, Kalinga Studio Bhubaneswar and Mumbai. Out of six songs, two have been shot at Bangkok, two stage dance songs at Kalinga Studio Bhubaneswar and two songs at Berhampur. The recordings of all these songs were conducted at Milan Studio, Cuttack and Sangeet Sagar Studio, Berhampur with music direction by Krishna Mohan Reddy and Sai Lakhan.

While Krishna and his dance group await the release of the film, the dancer-cum-choreographer is hopeful that the film will open to good response across the state. “People of Odisha had whole-heartedly supported and voted for Prince Dance Group in 2009 to help us win thereality show ‘India’s Got Talent’. I hope they would also support my dream project ‘Krishna: Story of A Dancer’,”summed up Krishna.
