Lockdown Angels: Get Essential Items Delivered At Home

In times of crisis, some organisations rise like heroes to make things easier for the people. Since the lockdown started in Odisha last week, a number of outlets have been lending a helping hand at the time of social distancing to deliver essential commodities and groceries at your doorstep. This is especially helpful for the elderly and differently-abled people. 

My City Links lists some of these “angels in disguise” that are trying their best to address the needs of the people of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. 

Big Bazaar

Big Bazaar has taken an initiative to deliver groceries to your doorstep during the lockdown period for a minimum order of Rs 1,000 and a delivery charge of Rs 50. Due to a lot of restrictions on movement, however, they are delivering goods only within a radius of 2-3 km of their stores. The stores are supposed to be functional by 9 am, but due to the unprecedented situation in the wake of the coronavirus threat, the stores start functioning by noon and they take orders till 6 pm.

Jai Odisha

The members of Jai Odisha have decided to deliver medicines for the elderly during the lockdown period. They started the service when Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a partial lockdown of the state last week. Since then, they have been delivering medicines to many elderly people in Bhubaneswar. 

Sourav, a member of Jai Odisha, told MCL: “We sometimes face difficulties in delivering the medicines as police are not allowing us to travel to many areas. However we try to do our best by following best practices.”

Big B Fresh Store

Located at Kesura, this store delivers groceries and fresh vegetables to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. 

Biplab, manager at Big B Fresh Store, said, “Because of heavy demand, we have run out of stock. But we are hoping the delivery will start again by Friday, as soon as fresh stocks arrive.”

Malgodown 

Malgodown is a store that delivers groceries and personal care products only in Bhubaneswar’s Patia area. This is because it has become difficult for the delivery boys to deliver goods during the 21-day lockdown period. 

They have limited stock and thus want to discourage people from hoarding. Accordingly, they have limited the order amount for certain items like rice (2 kg), refined oil (2 litres) and mustard oil (1 litre).
