Music Awards Rock At Debut Event

As many as 25 music veterans, as well as younger talents in Odisha, were felicitated at the first ‘Ruchi Odia Music Excellency Award 2019’. The awards function was hosted by the events company ‘White Canvas’ in association with ‘Herald Advertising’ and ‘The Messengers’ on Saturday.

Graced by well-known faces from the Odia entertainment industry, the event was inaugurated by Barabati MLA Mohammed Moquim. Among others, Ruchi managing director Dr Sarat Kumar Sahoo, Former CMC health committee secretary Ranjan Kumar Biswal, secretary of ‘Dadhichi Group of Institute’ Dr Manoj Das, director of ‘Sai World’ Piyus Mohanty and head of ‘Jawed Habib’ Chiranjeeb and director of Prelude Novel Ventures Satyabrat Sanu Ratho were also present on the occasion.

While the singer of the most popular Odia song ‘Rangabati’, Padma Shri Jitendra Haripal was felicitated with the Lifetime Achievement award, veteran music teacher Aruplal Ghosh got the Best Guru award. Other veterans from the Odia music industry like Judhistira Das, Alekh Chandra Biswal, Subas Das and late Radhakanta Nanda were also honoured for their contributions to Odia music.

Best Emerging Singer (Female) — Pragyan Prshmita

Best Lyricist — Arun Mantri

Best Sound Engineer — Shakti Swarup Mohapatra

Best Music Director (Album) — Asad Nizam

Pride of Ollywood — Krishna Beura

Film producer Akshay Parija was also given the Audience Choice Award for making Rangabati’s Bengali version and getting more than 27 million views on digital platforms. 

Musical Legend of Odia music industry Late Akshay Mohanty was awarded ‘Evergreen Singer Award’. His son Chitrabhanu Mohanty received the award on his behalf.

Also, more than 600 fans of Akshay Mohanty joined the signature campaign for him to get the ‘Padma Samman’. The organising team members are planning to make this event bigger by taking it to another level in the coming years.
