No Encroachment on Tribal Land in Odisha: Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari emphasized that tribal lands in Odisha are protected, and any encroachment or illegal purchase will result in eviction and restoration of the land to its rightful tribal owners.
Responding to MLA Bhaskar Madhei in the Odisha Assembly, Pujari stated that under the Land Reform Act of 1960, purchasing tribal land is deemed illegal, and the land is returned to the original owners. Currently, 654 cases of such purchases and 881 cases of encroachments are under consideration.
Additionally, 19,690 cases of illegal tribal land purchases are sub judice. As per Section 30(A) of the 1960 Act, officials are empowered to act against influential individuals who have unlawfully acquired tribal land. Deputy Collectors can declare such transactions invalid and ensure the land is restored to the tribal community.
Pujari assured that strict measures are in place to safeguard tribal lands and uphold their legal rights.
