Nor’wester rains Likely to Cool Down Odisha This Weekend
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Nor’wester rains are likely to arrive in the state starting this weekend, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing hot and humid weather.
Despite this upcoming reprieve, sweltering conditions are expected to persist in several districts over the next two days. On Thursday, high temperatures and humidity will continue to affect Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. On Friday, the oppressive weather will remain in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.
According to the regional meteorological office, some parts of the state are already witnessing thunderstorm activity due to an existing trough. This activity is expected to intensify with the formation of a fresh trough in the coming days.
As per the latest forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are likely to affect Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh districts on Saturday.
"With the arrival of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, the current hot and humid conditions are expected to ease between Saturday and Tuesday," an IMD official stated.
Meanwhile, the state continued to reel under sultry conditions on Wednesday. Boudh recorded the highest temperature at 42.5°C, while Bhubaneswar and Cuttack logged 38.3°C and 37°C, respectively. Although no official heat wave was recorded, high humidity levels exacerbated the discomfort. Humidity levels remained notably high across various cities—Balasore at 81%, Chandbali at 75%, Cuttack at 67%, Paradip at 79%, and Bhubaneswar at 65%.
