Odia Adman Gears Up To Launch Short Film On Netflix

With online streaming giants offering Indie filmmakers a platform to showcase their creativity and earn good money at the same time, more and more young talents are going the digital way to woo the viewers. The latest to join the bandwagon from Odisha is popular adman Dayanidhi Dahima.

Daya, as he is popularly known as, is ready to roll his next project, a short film, which is likely to stream on Netflix. He has approached Aditi Rao Hyadri, Radhika Madan and Vikrant Massey for the short film which is touted to be a thriller. The film will be directed by Mansi Jain who has earlier directed short films like ‘Chutney’ and ‘Chhuri’ starring Tisca Chopra and Anurag Kashyap respectively.

“Though we have approached Netflix, we have also held talks with other streaming sites like Amazon Prime, Alt Balaji, ViaCom and others. We have been talking to a lot of people but our first preference will be Netflix for India,” says Daya. This will also be the first pro-production team from the state to work at the national level.

Sharing about the film, Daya informs, “It’s a 17-minute thriller. From the first scene to the last scene, there is ample thrill for audiences. We have talked to Aditi Rao Haidari, Ruchika Madan and Vikrant, who are big names and popular in the genre of short films and web series. A verbal confirmation has been given to us already. We are just waiting for their dates.”He plans to start shooting in the month of April. “The shooting will begin soon. We are planning to release it in the month of May. We have chosen Dehradun as the location as it is apt for our film. Besides it is the best place to shoot if you wish to have to have a feel of North India,” he says.

Speaking about content creation for short films, he informs, “People don’t have time to watch lengthy films these days. People mostly prefer short content which they can watch while travelling or while waiting for a flight or train or on the go! Besides short films, people prefer to watch threefour episodes of web series in one go.”

On the kind of films being made in Ollywood, Daya believes that despite the criticism that has been coming in for the industry lately, good and original films continue to be churned out in Odisha. “There are people in the industry who want to bring a change in Odia film industry. Some of them have made good films but they are not getting enough scope and opportunity. If the audience starts watching Odia films, things will definitely change.”

The adman does not wish to limit his work to short films alone. Talking about his future plans, he shares, “We are looking forward to make 10 short films this year. We also have plans to start working on feature films for the web.” Fingers crossed, we say.
