Odia Athletes Win Gold And Bronze Medals In World Bodybuilding Championship
Odisha and sports have now become quite synonymous. Once again after the Olympics and Paralympics, Odia sportspersons have earned accolades in a global athletic event for the country and Odisha in particular.
Bhubaneswar’s Suvam Mishra won bronze for his resplendent performance in the mixed pair category on the last day of 12th Edition of World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship held at Tashkent in Uzbekistan on Thursday. Earlier, Ganjam district’s Chandan Kumar Sahoo won a gold medal in the 60-kg category.

In the championship, India claimed five gold, nine silver and 10 bronze medals. With a total of 720 points, Indian bodybuilders bagged the Team Champion title for the first time. Host Uzbekistan bagged the runners-up title with 510 points and Iran secured third position with 350 points.

The two Odia athletes had found place in the Indian team following a selection round held at Chandigarh University, Punjab, on August 30.
After this historic feat, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) took to twitter to congratulate both the athletes for the win.
