Odisha Braces for Intense Heat and Humidity in 13 Districts, IMD Issues Alerts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted severe hot and humid weather conditions for as many as 13 districts of Odisha on Monday. The districts likely to be affected include Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

A yellow warning has also been issued for nine districts due to prevailing heatwave conditions, while 10 districts are expected to experience increased humidity on Tuesday, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.

Daytime temperatures across the state are projected to rise by 2–3°C over the next three days, with these extreme conditions likely to continue until May 15. Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.

On Sunday, severe heatwave conditions swept across the state, with 19 cities recording temperatures above 40°C. Sambalpur reported the highest temperature at 43.2°C, followed by Titlagarh at 42.5°C, and Balangir at 42°C.
