Odisha Clarifies Maternity Leave Rules for Women Government Employees

The Odisha government has issued clear guidelines on maternity leave for women government employees, eliminating confusion around eligibility and duration. Approved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the new rules define when and how maternity leave can be availed.

Key Updates:

Leave Period: Women can take the 180-day maternity leave anytime from 3 months before the Expected Date of Delivery (EDD) to 6 months after childbirth.

Post-Delivery Service Entry: Women who join government service after childbirth can still apply for maternity leave, but only up to the child’s 6-month age. The leave duration will vary depending on how much time is left before the baby turns six months.

In Case of Miscarriage or Child Loss:

For miscarriage, stillbirth (after 28 weeks), or a newborn’s death within 28 days: 42 days of leave from the incident date.

If the child dies between 29 to 120 days after birth: 14 days of leave from the date of the child’s death, even if the initial 180-day leave is over.
