Odisha CM Launches Major Revamp of Jayadev Pitha to Honour Poet’s Legacy
The Chief Minister on Wednesday laid foundation stone for a Rs 7 crore development project at Jayadev Pitha in Kenduli, the birthplace of the legendary Sanskrit poet Jayadeva. The initiative aims to transform the sacred site into a globally acclaimed centre for spirituality, literature, and culture.
Speaking at the event held on the occasion of Jayadev Jayanti, the Chief Minister highlighted the timeless significance of Jayadeva and his magnum opus, Geeta Govinda, in shaping Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
He also announced a series of initiatives to enhance the spiritual and aesthetic appeal of Jayadev Pitha. The project will include the creation of vibrant flower gardens, ten lotus ponds, and expansive green landscapes featuring diverse plants and creepers—designed to revive the natural charm and serenity reminiscent of the poet’s time.
Additional initiatives aimed at transforming Jayadev Pitha in Kenduli into a model village and a vibrant centre of culture, spirituality, and tourism are announced. The proposed developments include the construction of a grand entrance gate, a Dasavatar Plaza, beautification of the existing lotus pond, creation of sacred groves, and establishment of craft shops and food courts to enrich the visitor experience.
Underscoring the state government’s commitment to honoring Odisha’s revered historical and cultural figures, the Chief Minister stated that the revitalisation of Jayadev Pitha is a vital part of efforts to celebrate the legacy of the great poet Jayadeva. He directed Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi to oversee the transformation of the site into a model village.
Majhi emphasized that preserving and promoting Odisha’s cultural heritage by paying tribute to its luminaries remains a core priority for the government. “Developing Jayadev Pitha into a prominent cultural and spiritual hub is in line with our broader vision,” he said.
To ensure comprehensive development, the Chief Minister instructed the departments of Culture, Tourism, and Information & Public Relations to collaborate on a detailed project report. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, MLA Babu Singh, and senior officials from the concerned departments.
