Odisha CM Praises Devotion of Habisyalis, Announces Digital Registration from 2026

CM Mohan Charan Majhi hailed the steadfast devotion of Habisyalis in Puri, calling their Kartika fast the “moral backbone of Odisha” and a true reflection of Odia culture and identity.

Addressing the concluding ceremony, Majhi highlighted the spiritual depth of Kartika month—a period symbolizing self-discipline, compassion, and unwavering faith. “For generations, our Odia mothers have upheld this sacred vow, embodying the ethical and emotional strength that defines our land,” he said.

In a major announcement, the CM unveiled plans for a dedicated digital registration system for Habisyalis starting in 2026. The platform will integrate medical, emergency, and logistical support, ensuring smoother coordination and better care during the month-long observance. “We are committed to honouring their sacrifice with modern facilities and compassion,” Majhi stated.

He also reaffirmed his vision for Puri as a world-class religious city, blending its spiritual heritage with modern infrastructure. Declaring Puri a municipal corporation marks a step toward this transformation, with ongoing urban upgrades designed to enhance pilgrims’ experience.

This year, the government supported around 2,500 Habisyalis, providing food and accommodation across five key venues—Brundavati Niwas, Bagala Dharmasala, Railway Tourist Complex, Railway Kalyan Mandap, and Mochisahi Kalyan Mandap.

An allocation of ₹3.30 crore was made for the arrangements ₹70 lakh more than last year—to strengthen volunteer networks, security, medical teams, and essential services for the participants’ safety and comfort.

Majhi concluded the event by interacting with the Habisyalis, offering prayers for Odisha’s peace and prosperity, and urging all citizens to follow Lord Jagannath’s ideals of equality, empathy, and unity.

The ceremony was graced by dignitaries including Puri MP Dr Sambit Patra, Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Puri Sadar MLA Sunil Kumar Mohanty, Brahmagiri MLA Upasana Mohapatra, and Collector Dibyajyoti Parida. The program opened with a welcome address by Satyavadi MLA Om Prakash Mishra and concluded with a vote of thanks from Pipili MLA Ashrit Pattnaik.
