Odisha Govt Approves 7,664 Police Recruitment Vacancies for 2026
In a significant move for job seekers across the state, the Odisha government has approved the recruitment of 7,664 vacancies in police and uniformed services. The recruitment process will be conducted by the Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission (OUSSSC), as per an official notification issued by the Home Department on Tuesday.
The large-scale recruitment drive is expected to strengthen policing and law enforcement in Odisha while opening up major employment opportunities for aspirants preparing for government jobs.
Vacancies
According to the official notification, the approved posts include:
- Civil Constable – 4,219 posts
- OISF Constable – 2,212 posts
- Sub-Inspector (SI) and equivalent ranks – 933 posts
- Constable (Communication) – 300 posts
Among all categories, Civil Constable posts account for the highest number of vacancies.
OUSSSC to Handle Recruitment
The state government has entrusted OUSSSC with conducting recruitment examinations for Constable, OISF Constable, Constable (Communication), and SI-equivalent posts. Earlier, recruitment for SI and equivalent ranks was managed by the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB). However, the Home Department has now shifted the responsibility to OUSSSC for administrative reasons. The official notification was signed by Deputy Secretary Tarun Kumar Panda.
Relief for Previous Applicants
The government has also clarified that candidates who had already applied for SI and equivalent posts under the earlier recruitment process will remain eligible for the fresh recruitment drive.
To ensure a smooth transition, the Odisha Police Recruitment Board has been instructed to transfer all application forms and related records to OUSSSC.
The announcement has created excitement among competitive exam aspirants across Odisha, especially those preparing for police and uniformed service examinations. With more than 7,600 vacancies approved, the upcoming recruitment drive is expected to become one of the largest police hiring initiatives in Odisha in recent years. Candidates are now waiting for the official notification detailing eligibility criteria, examination patterns, and application dates.
