Odisha Govt to Restart Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project with New Plan
The long stalled Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project is set to be revived with a new approach, with the Central Government extending support for its construction.
A technical committee will be formed to plan the project, visiting various cities to assess best practices and prepare a detailed report on the proposed track. A ministerial-level sub-committee will also be constituted, as discussed in the second review meeting.
The meeting also outlined a Comprehensive Mobility Plan, tasking the technical team with finalising the metro track layout and parking facilities. Public feedback will be sought to shape the project.
The previous contract with Ceigall India Limited and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) was cancelled after both companies allegedly failed to pay adequate compensation despite repeated requests. As a result, work on the project had been stalled for the past seven months.
