Odisha: OSPCB Allows Firecracker Bursting Between 7 PM and 9 PM on Diwali

The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has issued comprehensive guidelines to ensure a noise-free and eco-friendly Diwali celebration across the state this year. The move aims to reduce air and noise pollution while promoting the use of certified green crackers.

As per the directive, firecrackers can be burst only between 7 PM and 9 PM, and those exceeding 125 decibels have been completely banned. The OSPCB has prohibited the use of crackers in silence zones, parks, and within 100 meters of hospitals, educational institutions, religious places, and courts. Only green crackers approved by authorities are allowed, and they must be used strictly in open spaces.

Residential areas, roads, and crowded public places have been declared off-limits for bursting crackers. Children below 10 years are barred from handling high-decibel fireworks. The Board has also advised people to wear cotton clothes, keep water or sand nearby, and avoid re-igniting failed fireworks to prevent accidents.

Citizens have been urged to dispose of used crackers responsibly, maintain a safe distance from the elderly and animals, and use protective goggles for eye safety.

Any violation of these norms will attract strict legal action under The Orissa Fire Crackers and Loudspeakers (Regulation) Act, 1958, and the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. The public has also been encouraged to report violations to local authorities.
