odisha secures ₹28,000 crore industrial boost at tata steel sez, over 15,000 jobs to be created
In a major step towards industrial transformation in southern odisha, foundation stones were laid for 12 high-impact projects worth ₹28,084 crore in ganjam district. This takes total investments in the region past ₹40,000 crore.
Spread across sectors like green hydrogen, solar energy, specialty chemicals, logistics, and agro-processing, most projects are being set up at the tata steel special economic zone (tssez) in gopalpur — positioning it as one of india’s most promising industrial hubs.
Clean Energy Hub at Gopalpur: Gopalpur industrial park saw the launch of five key projects, including two massive green hydrogen and ammonia plants. Ocior energy will invest ₹7,200 crore to build a production facility with 2,300 jobs, while hhp five (hygenco) will set up another plant with ₹4,000 crore and 1,500 jobs. These additions make gopalpur a vital player in india’s green energy roadmap.
Boost to Solar Manufacturing: Saatvik solar industries is investing ₹3,500 crore in a 4.8 gw solar cell and 4.0 gw module manufacturing unit, expected to generate 3,225 jobs. Meanwhile, world green energy will build a 2.0 gw cell and 1.2 gw module unit with ₹2,500 crore, creating another 2,500 jobs.
Chemicals, lng & Strategic Infra: Superform chemistries (upl) will establish a ₹4,001 crore specialty chemicals plant employing 4,100 people, while petronet lng is investing ₹6,500 crore in an lng terminal at gopalpur, adding 1,000 jobs.
Odisha industrial infrastructure development corporation (idco) will develop a utility corridor and new industrial estate worth ₹229 crore. Tata steel will also invest ₹200 crore to strengthen the gopalpur sez infrastructure.

₹207 crore multi-modal logistics park by geo impex and logistics pvt ltd
₹149 crore bio-ethanol plant by tarangini distilleries at buguda
niche investments in eco-tourism, e-waste processing, and medical devices in barapalli
employment & vision for the future
Altogether, these initiatives will create 15,455 direct jobs, with many more through indirect employment. With total investments now exceeding ₹40,000 crore, ganjam is on track to become a key industrial hotspot — backed by robust infrastructure, skilled manpower, and strategic location.
