Odisha Shines in NIRF India Rankings 2025

Five higher educational institutions (HEIs) from Odisha have secured places among the country’s top 100, as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 released by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

SOA ranked 25th, KIIT 27th, NIT-Rourkela 34th, IIT-Bhubaneswar 80th, and AIIMS-Bhubaneswar 100th. Out of 4,100 HEIs participating in the survey, 54 were from Odisha.

In the university category, SOA and KIIT bagged 15th and 17th ranks respectively. Utkal University rose from 50th in 2024 to 48th this year among public universities, though it did not feature in the overall list. Sambalpur University and VSSUT were placed in the 151–200 band.

In engineering, NIT-Rourkela jumped to 13th from 19th last year, while five state institutes made it to the top 100. In management, IIM-Sambalpur improved its rank to 34th, and XIM University rose to 45th.

In medical, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar ranked 14th, SOA 15th, and KIIT 24th, while SCB Medical College failed to secure a spot. OUAT stood 19th in agriculture. SOA topped in law with a 10th rank, followed by KIIT (14th) and NLUO (15th).

NIT-Rourkela was also placed 9th in the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) category.

Notably, none of Odisha’s general colleges found a place in the top 300, with leading institutions like BJB College and Maharshi College not participating this year.
