Odisha Signs Pact with DIBD to Promote AI-Driven Language Solutions for Governance
On Tuesday, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology formalized an agreement with DIBD to foster innovation and bridge language barriers.
Under the terms of the agreement, DIBD will work towards enabling the state government to deliver services in local languages. This will integrate its language translation technology through the ‘Bhashini Udyat’ platform, which includes APIs and reference applications.
Thus, the state government has planned a partnership with the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to promote growth of language technology and generative AI solutions, aimed at enhancing governance in vernacular languages.
OCAC CEO Pradeep Rout explained that DIBD's language translation API will be integrated into various government platforms to facilitate multilingual access. The AI-powered translation service will be tailored to capture regional dialects and nuances, ensuring high-quality, real-time translations.
As part of the initiative, the state government will assess the linguistic needs of its population and prioritize languages for translation services. It will also provide the necessary infrastructure to integrate AI tools into its digital platforms and establish a state-level language mission or nodal agency to monitor and evaluate the outcomes. The agreement was signed by OCAC CEO Pradeep Rout and DIBD CEO Amitabh Nag.
