Paradip Port Gets ‘Mega Port’ Status

Paradip Port in Odisha has been officially designated as a ‘Mega Port’ by the Central Government under Section 73 of the Indian Ports Act, 2025.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways issued the notification on September 25, 2026, after determining that Paradip Port met the prescribed criteria for mega-port classification.

Located in Jagatsinghpur district, Paradip is the only port on India’s eastern coast to receive the ‘Mega Port’ designation. Along with Paradip, Deendayal Port in Gujarat, Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra and Mundra Port in Gujarat have also been notified as mega ports. Paradip Port serves as a major logistics hub for eastern and central India, handling large volumes of commodities including coal, iron ore, fertilisers and crude oil.

The new designation marks a significant development for Paradip Port and is expected to support further infrastructure development, operational capacity and maritime connectivity.
