Rituraj Mohanty Dons the Actor’s Hat In His Latest Music Video

Singers featuring in music videos of their own songs has made a re-entry of sorts. Back in the 90s, it was almost customary for artists to not just feature but also act in their music videos. The trend seems to have made a comeback. From rapper Badshah, Neha Kakkar to Sanam Puri and Aastha Gill, artists and singers are making the most of the popularity of independent pop music by starring in them and displaying their acting as well as glamour quotient.

The latest to join the bandwagon is RAW star Rituraj Mohanty who surprised his fans with an online release of his new Hindi song ‘Sapne Mein’. The song released on the YouTube channel ‘Zee Music Company’ on January 14. The video stars Rituraj and Gehana Vasisth in lead roles. According to the singer, this romantic Punjabi track was shot at Palghar with a budget of about Rs 8-9Lakh.

Talking about his latest foray into acting, Rituraj said, “When I was in studying music, I had a few friends from the Drama department of our college with whom I tried acting in some plays. I think the acting bug was was within me for long. When we held discussions with Zee Music Company for the song, they asked me to play the lead role and I agreed.”Rituraj wishes to act further if good projects come his way, be it Hindi or Odia. While Nitish Chandra directed the video, Neocubes Production produced the song.

For Rituraj, making Odia cover songs seems to be an added bonus. Ask him about the Odia-Assamese fusion song that released on the YouTube channel Rudra Media last year, he says, “Previously, I used to make cover versions of old Hindi songs only. Ritu Zeid, the Assamese person, is my programmer. I asked him to make a fusion song with me and we chose the Assamese song ‘Komola Sundari’ and the Odia song ‘Jai Phula’. We roped in the female singer Vinti Singh, and received quite a good response. I am also planning to release more old Odia cover songs in future.”
