Sandeep Rout All Set To Release ‘Woodpecker’ On Ullu Original

Ollywood’s popular child artist in the 90s, Sandeep Rout has come a long way and how. Now into production, Sandeep is all set to release his first Hindi web series, ‘Woodpecker’, on ‘Ullu’ Original on August 14.

The trailer of the series was released on Sunday and it has been setting the internet on fire.

Directed by Rajesh Patel, this series has Parag Tyagi, who is well known for playing Vinod Karanjkar in ‘Pavitra Rishta’, as the male protagonist. Another well-known face from the Mumbai TV industry, Iira Soni, has been cast opposite him.

Sandeep, who has acted in several Odia films including super hits like ‘Bhisma Pratigyan’, ‘Suna Panjuri’, ‘Laxmana Rekha’, ‘Bhai Hela Bhagari’ and ‘Santana’, entered into production at a very early age by following in the footsteps of his father and legendry Odia film producer, Late Subash Rout.

When asked about the plot of the series, Sandeep told MCL, “Leading a materialistic life these days, people don’t hesitate to forget ethics and humanity to reach an extreme position. So this adult drama story is all about such ambitions.

My intention is to build a bridge between the east (Odisha) and west (Mumbai). I have offered Odia actors to act in the series from my side and cast actor Dipesh Samantaray in It,” added Sandeep, who has earlier produced Odia serials like ‘Bidhata Ra Khela’, ‘Bhagya Hate Dori’, etc.

Born in a film production family, he might have learnt only about commercial things, but fortunately, he was blessed with creativity as well. “I have never given priority to business; rather, I have always focused on the content I am working on. That’s why I started my journey in Mumbai with the non-commercial film ‘Ullagaddi’, which is on post-production stage now. Ullagaddi means onion. The logic behind such a title is that like the onion, our life also has different folds (shades). When you eat raw onion raw, it leaves a bad odour. But when you add it in curry, it tastes and even smells better. So we can relate our life shades with it. Undoubtedly, I have to create some stuff for commercial purposes too,” he shared.

According to Sandeep, the making of any project depends on its content or subject and creating projects for OTT becomes more difficult as they should be crisp, to the point and fast. Then only it can be appreciated.

I have always wanted to make things for which I can feel proud of. As Ullu is a bold OTT platform, I was, honestly speaking, a little bit sceptical initially. But after listening to the script, which was more inclined towards the story than boldness, I agreed. And I believe that it would definitely set a benchmark in Ullu. It will be also streamed on MX Player too after Ullu,” he concluded.
