Subash Sahoo Serves Two OTT Aces With Chaman Bahar & Aarya

Bollywood sound designer from Odisha Subash Sahoo is on cloud nine these days. Two of his recent projects, ‘Chaman Bahar’ and ‘Aarya’, are now trending on OTT platforms with rave reviews from viewers.

Coincidentally, both were released on June 19; ‘Chaman Bahar’ on Netflix and ‘Aarya’ on Disney+ Hotstar.

A Scene from Chaman Bahar

Starring ‘Subh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’ fame Jitendra Kumar and Ritika Badiani and directed by Apurva Dhar Badgaiyann, ‘Chaman Bahar’ is a slice of the life story of a small town paan shop owner who falls for a schoolgirl living opposite his shop. He experiences love, jealousy and betrayal without meeting her even once.

Something similar has happened with Sahoo during his engineering days. “I remember during my engineering days that one of my friends got so impressed with a girl at a function that he followed her all the way to Raebareli in UP. And as a friend, I had to accompany him,” Sahoo told My City Links.

“We even stayed there for two days so that my friend could see her once again. As a mature person now, I realize that it was not love but just an infatuation. So the plot of ‘Chaman Bahar’ is very much relatable for people hailing from small towns like me,” he added.

Speaking about his leading man, he said, “Jitendra is a very natural, hard-working and dedicated actor. He has done a wonderful job in this. His hold with the craft is commendable. You can witness the way he unfolds the character in the scene where he has to say sorry with folded hands under pressure from a cop. And the way he is actually feeling sorry for what he has done towards the climax. So he has researched and rehearsed a lot for that character.”

A scene from Aarya

The USP of ‘Aarya’, a 9-episode crime thriller, is that it’s the comeback platform for Sushmita Sen after a long hiatus from the entertainment industry. Directed by Ram Madhvani, the web series also stars Jagdish Rajpurohit and Manish Chaudhary in key roles.

The story of ‘Aarya’ revolves around a housewife (played by Sushmita Sen), whose world suddenly turns upside down when she becomes a widow with three children and how she enters the world of crime.

Speaking about this project, Sahoo revealed, “I completed ‘Aarya’ during the lockdown without going to a studio. The challenge was to complete such a big web series equivalent to 4 films within only 2-and-a-half months, which generally takes more than 9 months. This is the most mature acting Sushmita Sen has done in her entire career. Earlier, she was only seen playing glamorous characters as per the demand of commercial films. But this time she got to show her pure acting craft. So she has left her starry charisma behind and brought realism to her portrayal, That’s why the audience likes it.”

Sahoo informed that this is his second collaboration with Ram Madhvani after ‘Neerja’. “He is the person who can explore your creativity even more than you can. So I have always appreciated the way he works and our wavelengths always match,” Sahoo added.

And what is next? Sahoo replied he will be surprising us very soon with two big projects, one with Arjun Kapoor and the other with Vicky Kaushal.
