Two Upcoming Women Centric Movies Of Ollywood That You Must Watch!

Like it is with film industry anywhere in India, Ollywood too has shied away from giving its actresses author-backed roles to excel and take centre stage. Though the 90s did see a few strong-willed film-makers trying to bring about a change with women-centric films like Udandi Sita or Bastraharana and Bou, the trend was short-lived. However, the recent wave of parallel cinema in the Odia industry has seen some strong performances by female actors in well-fleshed out roles that have ensured both commercial success as well as critical acclaim.

Films like Kathantara, Krantidhara, Mimansa and Hello Aarsi, which bagged three National awards, have not just stood out for their strong portrayals of women characters, they have proved that actresses need not just be eye candies or arm candies to their heroes.  Refreshingly, commercial cinema in Ollywood also looks ready to break this norm! The two leading ladies of the industry, Archita Sahu and Barsha Priyadarshini, will soon be seen playing two very strong characters in their upcoming projects, ‘Champion’ and ‘Nimki’ respectively. Here’s some interesting details about both these films that every ardent Ollywood follower should know of!

ARCHITA SAHU | CHAMPION

After her movie ‘Shiva Not Out’ which got released last year, Archita has decided to come out of her regular bubbly girl image and do something powerful yet inspiring.  In her upcoming movie titled ‘Champion’, Archita will be seen essaying the role of a village girl with different shades to portray. She will emerge as a boxer at the end, fighting for the rights of her villagers. To execute this role with perfection, Archita has been working hard, taking up regular training in boxing. “Champion is going to be different and one of the most power-packed roles I have ever played in my life. This time, I am trying to fit into the character of a boxer and look like someone who is influential and not bubbly. I hope the audience showers the same kind of love and appreciation for this role of mine as they have been doing for my romantic and comedy roles,” says Archita.

While K Murali Krishna is both the director and writer of this movie, two new producers named N.Gangadhar and Deepti are producing the film under Dong Yue Entertainment Banner. The film makers and the production team of ‘Champion’ hope to release the film by Ganesh Puja this year.

BARSHA PRIYADARSHINI | NIMKI

Referred to as the queen of Ollywood, Barsha will also be seen portraying the role of a village girl in ‘Nimki’ but hers will be a struggle story revolving around her journey ‘From Nimpur to Nabin Nibas’.

Susant Mani, one of the finest directors of Ollywood is both the director and writer of this movie. Prem Anand is giving the music while dialogues have been written by Dilip Choudhury. Though not much has been revealed about the film yet, we are hoping it turns out to be great!
